God (one of His many hats is the Great Personnelist of the Universe)--created Time In Grade for us to learn and grow. Perhaps even to learn from our mistakes. He also created Time in Service to do just that--serve others. However, each of us probably could have spend a little bit more time in one grade than any other for our own good--or know someone who should....

SGM (Join to see), I would expand the TIG requirement for 2LTs. That's just a feeling I have. I've never been a 2LT or a 1LT, but I kind of get the feeling that the time would allow them to mature a bit more. Just a hunch.

And I would shorten the TIG requirement for senior warrants -- that fluctuates with the board announcements, but it's generally been 4-6 years in the recent past. For me, in the late 90s and early 2000s, it was six years between grade.

My two cents, and no offense to any 2LTs or 1LTs.

There are no 2LT slots on MTOE. All slots are O2 and above. O1 are literally the PVT/PV2 of the officer world.

I agree with the TIG being lengthened for 2LTs. The automatic promotion does not always seem warranted.

No, it's just fine. This is not just the garrison Army we're talking about. In garrison, years as a SGT E-5 make sense. In war, you have a lot of promotions based on survival and skill.

Remember, everything is a minimum requirement. Only the hardest of chargers or the most dedicated gamers of systems make it at the minimum requirement at every level.
