I don’t know why I haven’t done this sooner. I have an unbelievably strong passion for animals and I always wanted to become vegetarian - but thought it was unattainable. I’m easing into this by still allowing myself to eat dairy and eggs, but the end goal is to go completely vegetarian. Did you know that roughly 800,000 cows are slaughtered DAILY and over 24 MILLION chickens are slaughtered DAILY? Everyone has their own opinions and can do what they want, but this is something I’ve been wanting to change for awhile and this is the first time I’m going for it. Giving up Chick-Fil-A (like 2x a week ATLEAST) is hard, but knowing what animals go through is harder. No blood transfusion was needed this last time mainly due to the massive infection that had built-up at the ulceration site. I had to have another emergency surgery and was admitted to the hospital the whole week prior to Christmas Day. The doctors can't definitely tell me specifically what is causing them, but they said the 3 usual reasons following a Gastric Bypass patient are 1. NSAIDS, 2. Smoking, and 3. Stress. I ensure no NSAIDS, I am stressed, but not much I can do about that, so they assume that my smoking relapse is causing me to have intestinal ulceration. The health of my family and I. My wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in August of 2021 and she is 11 weeks into her 20 weeks of chemotherapy. Good thing is no radiation therapy. She is a fighter! I realized that we need to live a healthier lifestyle if we are going to be around for our grandchildren. My/our goal is to live healthier, eat better (not full organic because it’s way too expensive), exercise more and stay active. #2. To give more, by way of volunteering my time to help organizations and give funds and support to organizations for breast cancer awareness and research. #3. Be a better father and husband, disconnect from work when the work day is over. Life is too short to be focused on things at work that can wait until tomorrow or Monday. I have wasted a lot of time trying to be the best employee I can be, instead of disconnecting and being the best father and husband I can be. This is a new year and it’s time for real changes. I want to know every option, every argument, every fact, big or small to protect myself and my family. I want to fine tune my instincts because I do believe that we were given our hidden voices / feelings to assist in our decisions. As with our current state, politics, pandemics, population and climate issues, I feel there is so much more going on behind the scenes. And not for the benefit of humankind, not for me and you. I will not accept alleged information on a first hand basis based on who is delivering the message, or their credentials. And I will not judge all books by their covers. I want to make decisions based on fact. I will be more open minded, less judgemental, to become a better person. The presentations would be based on a series of articles published in trade magazines on the same subject. I believe that companies should give preference in interviewing to Veterans for the following reasons. Having served 38 years in the Army and Army Reserves from Vietnam to Desert Storm and earned the rank of E1 to E6 and 2LT to LTC, I believe I have knowledge of all the areas listed below.
1. Leadership: Veterans have experience in leadership from the time they put on their first uniform throughout their career that civilians that just graduate from a 4 year college will never have, This is because the leadership they are exposed to run from simple squad leaders up to major activities such as combat and other troop movements. In addition, the leaders are required to monitor, counsel, and mentor their subordinates and are held accountable for their subordinates training and advancement. And as such, they are graded upon their capability to accomplish this.
2. Problem solving: Veterans are always challenged with accomplishing missions with minimum guidance. The saying I remember is “We’ve done so much with so little that we can do anything with nothing at all”.
3. Team building: For a unit to accomplish its missions the leaders must train and trust its subordinates to accomplish their assigned portion to the best of their abilities. And if they identify major problems, the subordinates must pass that information up in order to get the support (additional manpower, equipment materials etc.) to complete the mission.
4. Reliability/Accountability: Every veteran that has received an Honorable discharge must be responsible for their actions or inactions. From falling out for morning formation in clean, and presentable uniform to being punctual when expected to be at a certain location.
5. Training. There are more than 200 different MOSs (Military Occupational Skills) from basic Infantry (8 weeks) to extensive electronic repair (36-52 weeks) positions like Military Police to Supply management which are directly applicable to positons in almost every company.
I am currently working to compile at least 5 more areas of expertise that should directly influence a hiring manager’s decision when hiring new employees. This does not mean that Veterans should always be given the position, but if a hiring manager gets 30 resumes for a position, and 3 are Veterans, those 3 Veterans should be in the top 10 first interviewed for that position. That I would buy a home and have something for myself and my mom and kids that couldn't be taken away. I am a disabled veteran who has been homeless for about 7 years now.. I had no idea how important a credit score was and what I needed to do to get and keep it up. I would already have a home of my own and a vehicle if o would have known the importance of these things. Instead, I'm borrowing a car from my mother, only just asked the VA for help finding a place to live , and have no idea how to save money and not live paycheck to paycheck. I just want a home for me and my family. Maybe just putting it out into the world will help it ma ifest itself in reality. I've been struggling lately with a daughter who is bipolar and has such violent episodes that she demands all my attention. My mom and my 2 boys are staying with one of my friends. The VA had me in a hotel room for 1 month and it was supposed to be for whatever time it took to get a place but the hotel got my funding cut after my daughter had one of her episodes there in the middle of the night. I understand that she is hard to be around and it gets bad from time to time but I'm struggling already and now have no place to stay again ....... I just want a little bit of security. I have some stress in each and every day...things happen...things from my veteran husband having a bad day to having to call 911 and just this past month I've had to call 911 twice and then my daughters grief became mine when their father died Christmas Eve in SC & we live in Indiana and then I went this past week to get my oil changed and found out my car was essentially a death ride. So now I'm in a rental until they find out how to fix...but the good is that it will be safe and that my insurance will cover it. The ex burial situation was solved by a go-fund-me so my Kelli could go to SC and then the husbands heart issues are back under control but it will always be a day by day for him.
