Depends. Can I meet them at their time in history, with modern stuff?

Then I am going for Adolf Hitler right around 1935. I'm going to bring a few textbooks with me, show him that it doesn't turn out all that great for him OR for Germany. Hopefully convince him to take a different road.

But under no circumstances am I leaving the textbooks so he can learn from them and improve Germany strategy (like not falling for the battlefield deception that allowed DDay to succeed, or learning just how early we decoded the Enigma machine).

If it is a "neutral site" meeting, then I am going with Siddhartha. I need more calm in my life, and dude is the absolute epitome.

Many people in history did such remarkable things that I admire but I find it hard to really imagine myself wanting to meet someone from the distant past. I suppose I'm too attached to the present. Also, while a lot of the great innovators and leaders of the past have certainly inspired me, I can't really imagine myself spending a day with them without also imagining a lot of awkwardness and stiff conversation. So, I'll say John Pinette, a comedian with a love for food. I think he and I would have had fun together had some sort of "make-a-wish" scenario came about. He always made me laugh. I would have loved to meet him and take him out for a drink. Plus, I would have loved to encourage him about his health issues. While dragging him around all the best spots to eat in town, I would tease the hell out of em and twist his arm until he committed to 10 weeks of PT with me and my unit.

The writers and signers of the Declaration of Independence. I realize it's more than one, but the courage these men had to stand up for what they believed in even if it meant their life is very incredible. I don't want to start a political pissing contest because I really don't care what side you are on and I really don't understand why we have to take sides, but can you imagine doing what they did in this day. I would love to talk to them so I could understand what their thoughts and feelings were when they put their name on that document that virtually signed their death warrant.

It is difficult to pick just one, but I will go with Joshua Chamberlain.
Chamberlain was a professor of Rhetoric when he volunteered for duty with the 53rd Maine in 1862. He was offered a full Colonelcy but knew he didn't have the knowledge and training so he accepted Lt Col. He saved the day at Little Round Top at Gettysburg, winning the Medal of Honor in the process. He was at Petersburg and finally, was the officer approached to tell General Grant that General Lee requested a discussion on the terms of surrender. He knew enough about the situation to call his troops to attention and render honors when Confederate General Gordon's surrendering troops marched past, catching Gordon off guard and providing a bit of morality to a demoralized group. He went on to be elected Governor of Maine. After being Governor, he was placed in charge of the state militia and called them to put down a group of armed men who had taken over the capital because they didn't agree with the election results in 1880. He stayed at the capital and in harms way until it was resolved.
Chamberlain was a humble man that did extraordinary things.

If I could meet anyone in history it would be George Washington.

James J. Kilroy
WWII shipyard inspector, who inspired so many during the war. He inspected ships then left an inspection signature “Kilroy was here” marked in various locations of the ship. Servicemen everywhere began seeing the signature.
“Kilroy was here” soon became a popular message to leave at various destinations. Before long, Kilroy’s mark had been noted throughout Europe and in the South Pacific.
Some believe that “Kilroy was here” was a morale-builder as well. It seemed to give strength to the G.I.’s when they arrived at a new location and discovered that American soldiers already had been through the area.
Written in places as varied as Mount Everest and the Arc de Triomphe. It is occasionally still written in random places today. I have even written that, did you see it in Iraq?

My grandfather, a n Army combat veteran who was drafted during WW2 & served Honorably throughout Belgium, Poland, and Nazi-occupied Germany until the end of the war. I wish I had the honor and privilege to have met my grandfather because from what I am told he was an extraordinary individual who immigrated from Sweden via Ellis Island in the 1917 and lived through both World wars/Korea/Vietnam, the Great Depression, the civil rights movement, and the Cuban missle crisis. I try to emulate the person I know he was and live by his example even if we never met

Given the chance to meet anyone in history, I would choose Joseph, the son of Jacob, who was written about in Genesis in the Old Testament. He demonstrated such a high degree of integrity and forgiveness after his jealous brothers sold him into slavery that should be an example for all of us to emulate. Not only did he wait 20 years to reunite with his family, but he also forgave them, saved them from starvation, and lavished gifts upon them. When someone demonstrates that kind of character, I would consider it an honor to meet them and get to know them.

There is no person in history that I would rather meet than Jesus Christ. No presidents, no generals, no movie stars, none could ever compare. He is the most loyal, compassionate and loving person who ever was. He carried a cross up a mountain hill, was beaten and crowned with thorns. Then at the end of that horrible journey, they crucified him and nailed his hands and feet to the cross until he died. Then he took all of our sins to hell and 3 days later He rose into Heaven without those sins. His purpose was to give humanity a pathway to Heaven. All he asks in return is to believe. He is now my mentor, my role model and has taught me to love all people regardless of being friend or foe. His is my best friend who walks with my every day. He lifts me up when I have fallen and leads me down the road he has chosen. NO, no other can compare.

Donald J. Trump.
In my life time, President Trump has done more than any other president for our great country and the world. He wasn't afraid to stand up to leaders of other countries. He helped reduce government red tape. He helped increase employment and reduce unemployment. He was able to reduce people on government assistance by getting those back to work. He helped reduce crime both in this country and put the taliban on their heels. That is only a fraction of what he accomplished.

I would like to go back in time and Douglas MacArthur. I would encourage him to keep fighting into North Korea and unify North and South Korea. If they had been unified back in the 60's, perhaps we would not be dealing with the issues from North Korea today and much of the suffering that the North Korean people have had to endure over the decades, such as the splitting of families, hunger, oppression, to name a few, would never have occurred. In hindsite, sometimes, the leaders of our country do not do what is best for the overall situation, and when the president recalled MacArthur from pursuing further into North Korea, he inadvertently allowed the troubles we face today because of it.

It would be Albert Einstein. I would like to explore the thinking process of this genius. What was his motivation to pursue his theories of Special and General Relativity? On what basis did he reject Quantum Theory with its emphasis on probability not withstanding his famous statement, "God does not play play dice with the universe." He surrounded himself with equally brilliant colleagues, such as Neils Bohr and Erwin Schrodinger, who he obviously respected. Despite their efforts, particularly Neils Bohr who refuted Einstein's objections, he was unable to accept their explanations of Quantum Theory a theory that went on to become the most successfully applied concept in all of Physics. I would also ask him what got him started to take up the violin. But most of all I would enjoy listening to him expounding on any other topic that piqued his interest.

The Wright Brothers, like Noah and the Ark, were ridiculed and stayed the course to complete their dream of powered flight. To have a passion like they must have had, and to hang on to that passion, is something that we should all hope to have someday. It would be really amazing to be able to show them what and how they helped shape aviation today. Major General Daniel E. Sickles. American political general in the Civil War. Variously called the American Scoundrel, "Devil Dan", Sickles the Incredible.

Killed Francis Scott Key's son in front of the White House in 1859 and was acquitted of the murder charge. Also tried to start a Spanish American War- not once, but TWICE. Also called the Yankee King of Spain. Awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at Gettysburg in 1863, where he also lost his right leg to a cannon ball.

She was the service's first female fighter pilot when she stepped into an F-15E Strike Eagle in 1993. She later became the first female commander of a combat fighter wing in 2012. I would love to have a conversation with her to hear how she prevailed and the hidden battles she fought as a woman in her many roles. Brava!

Prince Harry. The only Royal I really like. Served his country. Gave up everything for love. Advocates for those who have no voice. Fights racism and inequity. I relate a lot to him on many levels for hilariously different reasons. For example, I left the racist religious cult I was raised in too... My family wasn't rich and world-famous but I'm glad for that at least. The paparazzi sounds like hell on earth! Like him, leaving the cult caused a HUGE rift in my family. I would love to meet Benjamin Banneker. I would want to know what pushed him (his motivation) to self-teach himself astronomy and math. What was his inspiration to want to know and keep going. The fact that he helped in designing the layout of the Washington D.C as it still is. When I was a kid, I was super interested in the stars, and I love math; but was never able to get a telescope to keep studying and learning, as well as enough self-motivation. I believe we all can learn, especially being African American, from Mr. Banneker as to what it takes to continue to push for your dreams as well as the future of your culture.

I’d love to my grandfather Wayne Davis. He may not be a “big name” in history but he was a POW in WWII and Purple Heart recipient. He was captured for almost 1 year and weighed a frail 87lbs when he got back to US soil. I never got to meet him in person but the hear him tell me about his time serving would be the the most historic thing for me. I believe our country could learn a lot from our fellow members who served because instead of learning about World War II, or anything military related, from lectures and textbooks, our country’s active duty members should be learning from older veterans. Someone who was there; a primary source who breathed the air of the time and lived the stories we read about.

Lawrence of Arabia! TE Lawrence did impossible things and did them within a foreign people vastly different from his racial background, country of his birth, and a very different culture from his upbringing. He made the impossible possible to Arab tribes and gave these scattered tribes a sense of unity for the betterment of them all. But in the end, the very nations he fought for didn’t see his vision of the future. The Middle East of today is a direct result of the rejection of his vision, which should be a real lesson in history to all the world’s governments.
Even president Woodrow Wilson saw the same understanding on many levels that TE Lawrence had concerning the post World War 1 decisions about the Middle East.
Lawrence crossed vast deserts thought by the Arab tribesmen impossible to cross. He holds the world’s record today for blowing up real trains during World War 1….! About 365 trains ! That unique fact contributed to the downfall of the Ottoman Empire, whose racial beliefs led to the deaths of millions within their own territories.
These are hard facts to except, but many history books are today documenting these historical events.
Doing the impossible is a trait all of us should take example from in light of today’s world conditions.
A little known fact of Lawrence’s military campaigns was his involvement, along with the British army in saving the life of the leader of the Baha’i Religion, who was under a threat of death by the Ottoman government and imprisoned in the prison city of Arce, Palestine.
Lawrence’s courage, in spite of his inner demons makes him a perfect example of what it takes to rise to the occasion of world history and bend history to his force of will.

This is a hard question, while on one hand there are so many historically famous people I would like to go meet some of my old relatives. If however, we are looking has historical figures, I believe I would like to spend some time with Thomas Jefferson. As a framer of our Constitution, maybe the person with the strongest influence to the Constitution, I think sitting down with him and being able to pick his brain, hear his thoughts, and just understand him and his long range vision of the United States would be beyond interesting. To hear directly from him his thoughts of what freedom meant for him in those moments then and what he thinks of the time from then, now, and into the future would be something. I wonder what parts of our history since his times would impress him, surprise him, and disappoint him.

My Father. I would love to find out what had happened to him in his life that made him so mean.
For most of my life, he treated my sister and me like property, not children.
The only time he told me that he loved me was when he was in the ER, and was out of his mind.
Was it something that happened during WWII, or before? His sister told me about a couple of times
that he almost lost his life while serving in Italy. Or was it just his personality that made him so distant and mean-spirited?
He never spoke about his past, and I did ask but he would just look at me as if I had lost my mind.
I was his and my Mom's caregiver as they aged and was proud to do that. My Mom was very loving.
One of the last things my Father call me was a Bastard for pushing them into Assisted Housing.

If I could meet anyone in history I would want to meet Benjamin Franklin. To me, Benjamin Franklin was such a diverse and dynamic person from American History. What I find fascinating about him was that he was known to be a polymath, or someone whose knowledge spans a substantial number of subjects and known to draw on complex bodies of knowledge to solve specific problems. He was known to be an avid writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer and publisher, a forger and a political philosopher. Benjamin Franklin is attributed with being one of the founding fathers of the United States, one of the drafters and signees of the Declaration of Independence, and he was the very first United States Postmaster General. Additionally, Benjamin Franklin is attributed with such milestone firsts as studying electricity and the use of the lightning rod, inventing bifocal glasses, and for starting civic organizations such as the very first public library, Philadelphia's very first fire department, and starting the University of Pennsylvania. Benjamin Franklin has even appeared on our US $100 dollar bill since 1914! I could go on and on about him as he was such a remarkable and influencial person, not only in US history but in world history as well!

While researching my family history line. I did found out that I have lineage to the Mayflower. While researching, I encountered the "Geneva Bible", which I had not heard of. Eventually I came across Willian Tyndale. He was translating a Greek New Testament and Luther's German text. With help of others, Willams translations is what the Pilgrims used when they landed in 1620.
He's not one that many have heard of but risked his life and was eventually strangled, hung and burned.

I would love to meet Noah. A man who was an o cloud leader and showed a faith that few, if any has shown since. He was pure of heart and so God told him to build an Ark and to gather animals in two so that all of creation would not be lost. Using his faith and following orders, Noah built the Ark while others laughed and questioned him. In the end, Noah’s faith, love and devotion to duty saved Gods creation and humanity. If I could meet anyone in history hands down would be Martin Luther King Jr. I grew up in the Deep South and his I Have a Dream speech had an Impactful influence over my life and help shape a nation. I am eternally grateful to him for showing me what true courage and sacrifice really means. He delivered that speech knowing by some supernatural means that his young life would be cut short from an assassin’s bullet. The next day MLK was killed. I have never forgotten and that speech would go on to give me the courage to stand up for everything this great nation is anchored around, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. If I could meet anyone in history, I would choose to meet Anne Frank. Anne Frank is a well-known figure for her diary, which she wrote while in hiding from the Nazis during World War II. Her diary gave a first-hand account of what it was like to live in fear and uncertainty, and her thoughts and reflections have become a symbol of hope, resilience, and courage in the face of adversity. Meeting her in person would give me the opportunity to learn more about her experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the impact that she has had on the world. I would also want to express my admiration for her bravery and the strength of her spirit, despite the incredibly difficult circumstances that she faced.

I would love to have met President Lyndon Baines Johnson.
This was one of the best "Social Presidents" we have ever known. The programs he instigated to Congress to pass helped were of great value to the American peoples. The Civil Rights Bill was one of his greatest domestic policies. Let alone his policies of Public Broadcasting. access to health care, aid to the American Arts, urban and rural development and public services.
It took courage for President Johnson to implement the civil rights of ALL Americans. Being a man from the South, being brought up in the prejudices of our Nation at the times, he lost a lot of friends supporting the rights of ALL Americans, overcame much of his ingrained prejudices to make sure that our Nation began to grow out of the dislike of Blacks and others of non-white Americans for no other reason than their heritage.
President Johnson was a man of courage and foresaw that there was some things very broken in our society and did his best to heal our Nation.

I would really like to meet Rosa Parks because she was a pioneer for equality for all Americans. Ms. Parks had the courage and strength to overcome the injustice that affects so many Americans. Additionally, racial and women's rights were highlighted by her courage to sit anywhere on the bus that she wanted. Ms. Parks endured being arrested for her beliefs for civil liberties for all Americans. Finally, Ms. Parks is a great example for all military and veterans because she was an example of strength and courage for everyone who is serving and who has fought for our country.

Honestly, I would go talk to my Grandfather. He served in the Corps in Vietnam, and was wounded three times before the last time left him permanently disabled (the tough SOB just kept going back). He died a few years before I was even born, but his example is one that left such a strong impression on the importance of Duty and Service for me. I won't say that all of my service (including outside the military) was due to his example, but it certainly played a large part in who I am today.

I would like to have met Nanny of the Maroons, a Jamaican Heroine who led one of many fights for freedom during British Colonialism and Enslavement of Africans during the 1700's. She was a fierce leader and warrior, using guerilla warfare in the mountains to outwit British soldiers and free many Maroon Africans. To speak to her about her courage and tactics used in Guerilla Warfare would be a joy. I'm still in awe of the accounts of the many wars she fought and how she evaded capture. She's a true heroine. Moore Town is named after her and is a place to visit on my bucket list!

I would like to meet Chesty Puller. He is a Marines, Marine. Their will never be another like him. in 1956 at Parris Island at the Cross Creek incident where several Marine recruits got drowned in the swamps during a march at night by a DI. Chesty testified why the Marine training was more severe than the other branches. Back then the DI who was court martialed was busted to Pvt. but was not discharged. he remained in the Marine Corp because he had received several decorations in combat during WWII and he had a clean record. Other DI,s before him had also run recruits through the swamps nothing happened. He admitted he used bad judgement when he decided to run through the swamps with the recruits because it had been done before. The court Martial panel was enthused by Chesty,s testamony He made them understand why the training was so severe. After Chesty,s testamony The DI got the punishment the panel gave him. Several changes were Made in the training. Always two DI.s When the recurits were training. No marching thru the swamps.

I’d like to meet Silas B Hays whom the army hospital on Ft Ord was named for so I could tell him that I was left for dead in the morgue after being ambulanced to the ER unconscious after being deceived by SSG David Garcia on Tuesday, November 20, 1979 after morning formation using my job training to be raped, been gaslighted by the ER nurse that I must be missing home. I was expeditiously discharged with an honorable discharge under chapter 5, in ability to maintain acceptable standards for retention, to cover up the rape and kept from my rate for disability income by being kept from the medical evaluation to cover my rape…I would like to know what Silas B Hays would have to say also about the fact that staff Sergeant David Garcia was being paid by every American taxpayer while he was raping me that Tuesday morning, then went home to his wife who was a nurse in Silas Behance hospital and their eight year old daughter Petra while I lay unconscious on a gurney in the morgue with his semen held captive in my underwear pressed against my 19 year old self for 10 hours before being released by the last spec 4 on duty at 6:15 PM.

There are countless historical figures I would love to meet in history, but one that comes to mind is Leonardo da Vinci. This brilliant polymath was not only a painter but also a sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, and cartographer. He was a true Renaissance man, and his insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge led him to make groundbreaking discoveries and create some of the most iconic works of art in history. I would love to meet him, not only to learn from his vast knowledge but also to witness his creative process firsthand. It would be fascinating to observe him sketching out his ideas, constructing his inventions, or even simply discussing his philosophies on life and art. Meeting Leonardo da Vinci would undoubtedly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it would be an honor to have the opportunity to engage with such a brilliant mind.

The historical figure I’d most like to meet is Theodore Roosevelt. One of the most fascinating and admirable men in American history, he overcame a debilitating childhood illness to lead a life of which most people could only dream. A dedicated public servant, he was a state legislator, the New York City Police Commissioner, New York State governor, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Vice President, and President, in addition to serving in the Spanish-American War and receiving the Medal of Honor. His love of the outdoors and desire to lead the “strenuous life” only add to his mystique. His accomplishments and facets of his legacy are too many and formidable to list here, but needless to say his contributions to our national and cultural heritage and his larger-than-life character make him a true American icon.

John Howland, one of the original Pilgrims to arrive in Plymouth in 1620. John Howland is a very distant relative and has a story that rivals those dreamed up by Hollywood screen writers. Originally
he came as a manservant to Governor John Carver. Howland's adventure started before he even stepped foot on land when he was swept overboard and then miraculously saved, then by virtue of surviving the first winter he eventually became an elder of the settlement. I would love to meet Abraham Lincoln. Having grown up in Illinois, we took field trips to Springfield to visit his home and tomb. I've read many books about him and am currently reading one now. I've also visited the Springfild museum dedicated to him. I'd like to settle the controversy about his stance on racism. I would want to meet James Earl Ray, the assassin of Dr Martin Luther King, in order to ask him two questions. First, how did he know which rooming house to go to which overlooked the motel where Dr King was staying. And, secondly, I would ask him how he came into possession of the stolen Canadian passport which allowed him to flee to England where he was apprehended. Likewise, who told the FBI that he had traveled under the false name and where did a small town criminal like himself acquire the funds to travel to Memphis for the kill and then to escape to England.

I want to meet the great labor and civil rights leader Cesar Chavez, and thank him for all he did for our community. He knew firsthand the struggles farmworkers were facing during that time. He worked on improving the working conditions and living conditions. Furthermore, he accomplished this by nonviolent means. He founded the National Farm Workers Association and gained the respect of various political leaders at that time. On a personal note, my father and uncles were part of the Mexican Farm Labor Program or "Bracero Program." Their stories motivated me to join the Marine Corps, be a Police Officer, and obtain my degree "Si, se puede!"

I thought about this a lot. My answer would be my Son when he is older and has kids of his own. The reason would be because, as a Military member/and father I was taught about honor courage and commitment and all the 13 leadership traits in the Marines. True leaders make great contributions in history around the world. Parents are the true teachers, leaders, and mentors for the next generation throughout time from Ancient times to present. Parenting crosses even to other species. And as a father I would love to know that I have given my son all the traits to continue on the founding principals that many fathers have passed down to his/her kids. Every significant person in history had a biological parents or not who has shaped them to what they become. And I would always teach my son to learn from the past history but make his own history into the future. He will never know whom he will inspire or what he will accomplish. Today is tomorrows history.

I would like to meet Harriet Tubman! Mrs. Tubman was one of the most courageous individuals I’ve studied. Mrs. Tubman was a great activist for enslaved people. She was resilient on completing many missions to rescue people that were forced into slavery. The Underground Railroad was one of her main attributes however it was not her only known task. Mrs. Tubman was also an armed scout and spy for the Union Army. Im sure she was a walking book of knowledge and I could have learned a lot from such a wonderful individual. Ignorance isn’t a crime the crime is the lack of intellectual curiosity!

This is a big no brainer! I think I am supposed to say something like - I would like to meet George Washington a brave and valiant soldier and a hesitant politician It would be wonderful to sit with him and glean information and wisdom and see if he has a since of humor. It would be useful in my life but really the person I would want to see is my younger self.
I would have a little advise for this historical figure. I would tell him of Sergeant Major Nelms who came to our platoon out of high school and ended his military career at Ft. Bragg NC when his parachute failed to open. Half of his original infantry platoon showed up at his funeral. The respect that young private commanded was real and down to earth. I say "Be that guy!" Take General Cloutier a three star general who never forgot the names of his original scout platoon that went into Panama with him, so many years ago and so many battles later he never forgot us. Be that guy! How about Hancock that young private that jumped right into ranger school and jumped up in rank. Now that we are all a little older he just calls out of the blue for no reason other than to hear your voice. Do not be afraid to fail, give it your best and respect everyone they all are good at something.
We all have war wounds and even better stories but many have demons real or imagined. Stay in touch with your team throughout the years keep them alive by that random call. Let them know they are all important and they are still serving. They need to tell their story and continue the work of protecting our country by raising and encouraging patriotism. Be a teacher, be a father, be pillar in the community. Be that guy that can forget himself in the service of others!

If you could meet anyone in history it would be Carl M. Brashear who was a United States Navy sailor that became the first African-American US Navy Master Diver despite having his left leg amputated. The film Men of Honor was based on his life and some of the events that he endured during his Naval career.
I would ask him what was his personal motivation for pressing through the racism and hostility while attending the United States Navy Diving & Salvage School. I would also thank him for his contribution to the United States Navy and for paving the way for many others who were challenged in that career field.

I have always respected Abraham Lincoln beginning with stories I heard about him in elementary school. He was raised in poverty but demonstrated integrity and a strong character throughout his life. He was committed to his personal ambitions despite failures and provided strong leadership for our country during its most difficult time of division and war. His humility and trust in God strengthened him to respect those who disagreed with him while standing firm on the principles of the equality and rights of every human being. He led us to the emancipation of slavery, and I am confident would have helped our country heal much more quickly and led the push to reunify the nation's political differences and advance the rights and opportunities of black Americans. He perservered through hatred, mockery, antagonism, and family struggles, and his life was ended much too soon by an assasin who was an angry and biased coward. I am conviced he would have wisdom to share with our political leaders today, and will always be an inspiration and one of our two greatest presidents.

I would want to meet William H. Carney, he was the first Africa-American Medal of Honor recipient. He served in the Army during the Civil War. I was ask him what pushed up to join the service in such a turmolous era. My curiosity came from a visit to Charleston, he name was briefly mentioned on the tour so I wanted to know more. He risked his life to keep the American Flag from falling to the ground as a fellow soldier died holding it. He was shot several times crawling up the hill to Fort Wagner keeping the colors from touching the ground. I wonder what was going through his mind to protect the flag through that hell. True definition of honor and courage.

I want to ask him why did he mar his reputation by claiming to have found pre-Homo sapien stone tools in N. America at the Calico Early Man Site in California’s Mojave Desert ?
How could he rationalize making such a claim without examining how those tools could have been made by natural means ? Was it because he was getting careless in old age ? Neil Armstrong, growing up as a kid I was fascinated by the space program. I watched every launch that was broadcast on TV back then. I used to marvel at the powerful rockets and the men on board as they flew into space. Then the Apollo 11 mission came along and Neil was to be the first man on the moon. My parents let me stay up late that night, as I was only 9 years old at the time. I remember watching Walter Cronkite describe what was about to happen. Then Neil started coming down the ladder and was then on the moon. Those words that he spoke "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Those words still bring tears to my eyes when I hear them. I would like to talk with Mr. Armstrong and ask him all about that experience.

Yesterday was some sort of celebration day for the "Vietnam War" and the failures of the American Political elite from 1954 to 1975 to "Fight to Win" as was done in World War II. It was also a rewriting of history from a false narrative by present day historians who were not sent to Vietnam and were not led by incompetent leaders who pursued "Peace Talks" for years with a team of Foreign-born Nazi escapees. This may raise some hackles for some past political leaders and people still living a lie. We Veterans did not lose any Wars, but they have been given away time after time by our poorly chosen (or appointed) leaders. True history as I lived the past 84+ years does not reflect any declarations of War for Korea or Vietnam. They were "Police Actions" or some other variation of Bull Crap used to gradually let communism expand worldwide. Negotiating ends to these "engagements" always ends with the United States of America sucking hind teat.

Ludwig van Beethoven. November’s cold clings to the side of a small apartment. Disheveled yet with a touch of madness, a young man huddles beside the light of a single candle. His light offers no warmth and instead he sits alone in the growing dark, lost and hopeless. The furious scratch of the quill serves as the constant rhythm to the occasional staccato pop of the candle’s flame while his soft muttering goes without an audience. He is alone.

From the timely and artistic city of Bonn, this promising young man now finds himself at a crossroads and in this single room apartment, he stares at his future if only to see darkness. The markings on the paper before him are but the latest in a series of letters to his tending physician, Dr. F.G. Wegeler. The symptoms are worsening, he scribbles. With each passing day, my world becomes more silent. His desperation mounts as the questions flood his thoughts. For him, there is no answer, only a solemn quiet of the unanswered for himself, his work, his world, and yes, even his creator.

At just over 30 years of age, Ludwig van Beethoven had penned only one symphony. More than any other, his first was written for his contemporaries in an effort to prove his belonging in their world, a world he knew best. And yet, entering what should have been his prime and the throes of early adulthood, hope now eluded him. As a young man, he was becoming acquainted with three of mankind’s oldest foes: time, sorrow, and grief. With each passing day, he descended further into their hold.

As a composer, he would write, my greatest gift is to be heard! How can I, a man with so much to give, with the ability to inspire with just a few lines on parchment, how can I face this cruel world without sound? Without my music? He was a man, lost. In this dimly lit apartment on the outskirts of Vienna, in the small village of Heiligenstadt, Beethoven was now crafting his last will and testament.

The action itself would be swift unlike the decline of his ability. As he understood it, Fate had cast its lot and now young Beethoven glared at the prospect of a growing silence that promised to deafen his life’s work. Over the past few weeks, he had continuously written letters to his brothers, each more expressive in its pain than the previous. His similar, constant correspondence with Dr. Wegeler clearly illustrated the growing depression gripping his soul. His health, as a result, worsened while his resolve deteriorated. No one could reach him, though few dared. Beethoven was, after all, never an approachable man. Even as an adolescent, he was lost in the music heard only within his thoughts. Yet he remained desperate to communicate with the world around him through the only means which he intimately knew: a ledger. On this night, he sat quietly scratching this final letter when he happened to notice the vibration of the quill running over the paper. He scratched further, this time making small lines along the margin of his letter. In those moments, Beethoven quite literally felt inspiration. His cursive became incoherent. It was less connected yet more excited, perhaps even maniacal. With each line he penned to paper, he heard a growing chorus in his head. Each movement on the parchment was a running series of notes which he felt. And in those moments, he knew his music could be much the same for others: to feel the evocative and powerful influence of music.

Dropping his quill, he rushed to the only piece of furniture still intact in his apartment. Armed with a small handsaw, he began to widdle the three legs of his piano until it lay flush with the floor. Once rested, he began to play. The music flowed from the piano into the floor and from his floor to his body. The running melody from that night would create the beginnings of Moonlight Sonata. Invigorated yet defiant, he grabbed hold of the discarded quill and finished writing that same letter to Dr. Wegeler, though the tone had now changed: I shall seize Fate by the throat, he declared. It certainly shall not crush me completely. Emphatically, he signed that last correspondence of the night before collapsing in a heap of emotional exhaustion. The following morning, he returned to Vienna, returned to life, and returned to his music.

From that moment, Beethoven was renewed. Hundreds of concertos and sonatas still awaited for him. He would complete eight further symphonies after that fateful night. His deafness was a disability but he would be sure it would not become a debilitation. To this day, you can hear it. Listening to his work, you can experience the pain and anguish we all feel in life’s moments of despair but so too in his works we share in the triumph and victory of a life of determination.

In his third symphony, we live through the victory of overcoming the greatest of obstacles, rising above the expectation to declare victory. In his fifth symphony, you can feel his determination and witness his sheer will to overcome fate's seemingly impossible odds. And it was in his seventh symphony that we sense his continued struggle in life amidst a beautiful darkness. In his ninth symphony, we sense a man at peace with himself and with the world around him. At the time of his final composition, Ludwig van Beethoven was completely deaf as he wrote his final symphony, and yet he still called his masterpiece "An Ode to Joy". His was a life that carried weight beyond anything he could have imagined. A man whose world was composition, he wrote one of the most incredible and inspiring pieces of music without ever hearing a single note.

Recent history, Gen. Dennis Reimer Chief of Staff US Army. When I was a young soldier I had the pleasure of serving under then LTC Reimer at Ft Carson, CO. Although he was my BN Commander as A E-4 I didn't really get to interact with him but benefited by his outstanding leadership. Mission was always first and he made sure his troops were well trained and ready to respond to any need given to us but he didn't stop there. We were well taken care of, our families were important to him and he went out of his way to include them in everyday Army life and prepare them for the hardships he knew were coming. He would stop and pay attention when one of us brought up a better way of getting the job done. Then he would explain why it wouldn't work or go out of his way to make sure your idea was put in place to improve our goals.

I would have loved to have met Amelia Earhart. Even though she had never served in the military, she paved the way for future women pilots. I would love to meet General George Patton. I am intrigued by his tenacity for strategy and the grind of an army towards victory. He was both a tough man and an inspirational one. What was his main idea of living and what gave him the greatest pleasure? Did he want to be a general, or did he desire to lead, knowing that he had the will to help others succeed? General Patton did not fit the regular Army mold and yet he personified it. What were his feelings about that dichotomy, and did he use it to his advantage, or did it bring him sorrow or pain? Talking about war is difficult and most veterans avoid it, and yet the human interactions with the troops have great meaning. What was General Patton's feelings about the men who served under his command? Did he establish any special bond with his men or his commanding officers, or did he hold himself apart? If the latter, why was this so, and did he gain anything for himself or his purpose in the way he approached the interactions with people while serving in war. And finally, how did General Patton approach peacetime? Did he feel more at home in his role as an officer and leader, or did he give value to respites that were not the calm between storms on the battlefield. Was there a preference? A man like General Patton becomes an icon, but he is still a man. I would love to meet that man.

I would truly like to meet Nostradamus! His predictions about our future are uncanny. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
I thought about who would be an intriguing person to meet and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes to mind. Why him? He was a hero in all sense of the word. He had no super powers. Bullets didn’t bounce off him and he couldn’t fly. Yet, he endured suffering, ridicule and eventually death. He knew he would die, yet he persisted with his message of hope for all. He was what the people needed when they needed it. He was murdered, but not in vain. His death sparked debates, revolutions and change in a time change was not welcome and fought against.
Again, why Dr. King. I would ask him why not just enjoy this life and your family? Why not just be a father or grandfather or a husband. I would ask him what pushes you to be this revolutionary figure in spite of all the hate, jeering, scoffing and attempts on your life? Maybe, just maybe, I could harness a portion of his drive and create a change that is needed in our country today.

I would love to meet King Solomon, David’s Son. God gave him a tremendous kingdom full of glory and wisdom beyond our comprehension. I would love to how things were and experience the different foods and spices from the nations that were delivered to him on regular basis. My grandpop, Mr James T. Maddrey. He passed away when I was 2 1/2 years old.
He was a WWI veteran and survivor. After the war, he moved to a small town a became a banker. I was told by several merchants, that he would give them start up business loans when no one else would. Often years back, I would walk into a store and hear, “I don’t know who you are, but I know your father and grandfather well.” The more people in that town I met, the more proud I was of him and wanted to be like him.

If I could meet a person from history it would be Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. As a former Drill Instructor, I admire "the Baron" for being the first of us. His transforming influence over the Continental Army, at Valley Forge, created a fighting force worthy of the task of securing Independence for the United States. In my opinion, no man, save George Washington, had a larger effect over the outcome of the Revolutionary War than the Baron von Steuben.

U,S. Army. And he was successful in all areas of life. He had soldiers who came to him with problems and questions he had to adjudicate from many different perspectives that other leaders were not presented with: primarily because he was a military leader and /afro-America. And while doing this very successfully, he rose to the top.
Ultimately he accomplished every mission he received professionally and with dignity. He was, and will always be in my mind, the epitome of a professional soldier. Thank you for the example you gave us. Hoorah !.

If I could meet anyone in history, I would like to meet Martin Luther King, Jr. I am deeply inspired by his ability to transform his dreams and visions and manifest them into reality. I would want to meet Abraham Lincoln. He was an imperfect man who suffered from depression and grief (after his son died), and he surrounded himself with detractors, but he transcended his personal issues to do what was best for our country. By working across the political aisle (and even including some of his opponents in his Cabinet), he was able to bring the country through its greatest crisis, at a tremendous personal cost to himself. I'd like to meet Andrew Jackson. He was truly an American bad-ass! He was orphaned during the revolution, raised by his uncles, was a self-taught frontier lawyer, and served in both houses of congress before becoming the 7th president of the United States.
Although he was the "father of the democratic party", he did not hold the values of the current party and was actually involved in several duels, one of which he nearly died in. His VP was famous for having a duel on the White House lawn, so they were no opponents of gun ownership.
I also served on the submarine that was named after him, during the cold war. "One man with courage is a majority", was the boats motto. #41forFreedom.

If I could meet anyone in history, it would have to be Jesus, in the human form. I would love to have spent time with Him, seeing His miracles performed, the unconditional love He extended to all, and to have engulfed myself in His presence. I cannot begin to imagine how people, who really knew that He was the Messiah, acted and treated Him on a daily basis. We read about Him in His book but to actually be there in HIS presence would be something else entirely.

If I could meet Anyone in History I would Pick My Dad. The Reasons for this are when I was 11, my Dad got Sick. We had just been living in our new house a year, and next thing I knew my Dad was so sick and my mom took care of him in the Day and when my Aunt came home after work she took over. I was just a kid, I had 3 other sisters. So I was out playing with my Friends. My mom told me my Dad was getting better when he was Dying. It was horrible when he died. I could not even Speak. I felt betrayed. I went into 8th grade and did not talk to anyone about my Dad. Years of Therapy later and I still miss him. When my mom passed , my sisters and I got his memories..my Aunt did a lottery and I wound up with my Dad's flag presented to my mom at the funeral, we each got his medals. I talk to him all the time. I know there are a lit of famous people I could meet but my Dad holds precious in my Heart.

Both of my grandfather's whom had both served in the Army, to see what they went through and what it felt like back when they were in. Both of different nationalities and times were very different. Although I grew up an Army brat, I joined the USNAVY and I'm sure my experience was much different than theirs. I'd like too see that history, they have both passed on. I know of some things they went through from family members as well as very little of what they had told me also, but I'm sure the experience is much different through their eyes. It would give reason also why certain things turnt the way it did before their passing.

I would love to meet the Captain of the USS Indianapolis, Charles McVay. His career wasn't particularly extraordinary, but he and his surviving crew were subjected to one of the worst military tragedies in our history. The willpower he had to survive had to be incredible, but he unfortunately was turned into a scapegoat for the USN's failures. Ultimately he committed suicide due to the military tribunal he was put under and wasn't exonerated of his actions until Clinton's presidency.

One of the most inspiring minority military heroes in American history is Doris "Dorie" Miller, an African American sailor in the United States Navy during World War II. Miller's bravery and selflessness during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, earned him the Navy Cross, making him the first African American to receive the award.

Miller's heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor were nothing short of extraordinary. Despite being assigned to the ship's kitchen, Miller, with no formal training on a .50 caliber anti-aircraft machine gun, manned the weapon and shot down multiple Japanese planes, saving countless lives in the process. His selflessness and bravery were instrumental in stopping the attack and changing the course of the war.

It would be an incredible honor to meet Doris Miller and hear about his experiences firsthand. To be in the presence of someone who had such a profound impact on American history would be awe-inspiring. To hear about his courage and bravery in the face of danger, as well as his role in breaking down racial barriers within the military, would be a truly humbling experience.

Meeting Doris Miller would be an opportunity to express gratitude for his service and to learn from his example. Jack LaLanne is whom I would like to meet. He was the first fitness guru on television many years past. I was an overweight sedentary child and when I saw him on TV, I began to work out with him and lost weight, became fit for life and excelled at High School sports obtaining a scholarship for wrestling. Later in the military it served me well. Earning the President Roosevelt Fitness medal, being honor graduate from the Army master fitness trainer course and competing at state, national and international levels over my career. Entering law enforcement at 52, SWAT team at 54 and becoming the sergeant of that team at 60 years of age. Hired by Bureau of Land Management as a wildland firefighter at 67 and now planning on competing in the World Fire and Police Games in 2025. I would just like to thank him and tell him what he did for an overweight, unconfident kid.

I would like to meet the person who received the message warning that the Japanese planned to bomb Pearl Harbor or were enroute to Kole Kole Pass. As to why I would like to meet this person, I would ask what made them think that this was not plausible? Who made the decision to not pass this information on to higher authority? Why was this not given top priority? Why was this placed with unimportant messages?
Can we now admit how many and the locations of ALL Japanese interment camps we maintained during this time period? Did we compensate the Japanese Americans and Koreans as we have ALL others such as the Vietnamese, etc.? It is a sad reality that this learned behavior keeps being taught to new generations, and doesn't stay in the past where it belongs. MLK was a man who knew that violence does not change perception, and that only through new learning and truly finding the love in those around you could teach the value of all types of people.

Harriet Tubman. She was selfless, courageous, strong and patriotic! As a free woman she made numerous trips to bring enslaved people to free territory. After years of that she joined the military and led troops into battle for our country. She was a heroic woman with an incredible story.

If I could meet anyone in history it would be Martin Luther King Jr. To be able to speak with him about his mission and the obstacles he faced is something that I’ve always wanted to know on a more personal level. Ofcourse we see what is written and the videos that have been put out about his movement, but to get a better picture of what was going on in his head personally would be great.

If I could I would like to meet Jacky Robinson. I would thank him for being both the first black baseball player to break the color barrier in the major leagues, but also for improving play across the board. Without him as a leader, the game would not be what it is today.

I would like to have met Eleanor Roosevelt. I did my high school term paper on this amazing lady. For one thing, I love many of her quotes. In particular, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". I love how she supported the Tuskegee airmen and all of her work with the UN after having severed so long as First Lady. I think her intelligence and her understanding of the importance of basic, human and civil rights is understated. She also could convey deep thoughts in a very simple way.

I would like to meet George Patton who was rough on servicemen and sometimes to much so. But he made the soldiers toe the mark.

Amelia Earhart would be fascinating to meet. She was an inspiration in my pursuit to be an Army Aviation Officer. She defied conventional feminine behavior and relentlessly pursued her dream. Being the only female in my Army R.O.T.C class was challenging yet I pursued the hardest branch to be selected for and dared to have a successful military career despite the obstacles like Amelia Earhart. She did things her way, smiling al the way. It would be an honor to meet her and learn more about her upbringing, challenges, achievements and dreams.

If I could meet anyone in history, it would be Elizabeth Smith Friedman.
The first woman Cryptanalyst (code breaker).Famous mostly for breaking Nazi codes during WW2. Even though no one really knew about it till now.. Elizabeth went to her grave with this little secret while the FBI took the credit..
It's a shame,she risked her life for our country .

My father the buck Sargent in WWIi..

He was a man that was humble and caring.. a solider that not only survived the pain of watching his brothers in arms pas before his eyes, but he also respected those that others believed was the enemy, but in his mind he knew what they really were... men who were misguided by a world that didn't know what loving your neighbor really was.. It is everyone in the world.. He carried that into his life many years before I was born.. and it wasn't until years after his death that I learned of what he did to provide for those that others called the enemy or different because of where they were from our what ethnic group they were born into.. I wish I could have given him the hug he never received for all the love he gave..

“If I could meet anyone in history I’d want to meet our first President George Washington”.
Although; I’m certain most Americans know who our first President was, I don’t think most of us including myself truly enough about who was Washington the Man. Meaning I don’t think we know enough about what made George Washington tick.
Our first President was truly multi-facetted man. We know from just the quickest of overviews we have:
Washington the Plantation Owner
Washington the Surveyor
Washington the Soldier
Washington the Spy
Washington the Visionary
Washington the Man of Peace
From my observations Washington strikes me as being a truly stoic man, because he continually displays 4 virtues, Courage, Discipline, Justice, and Wisdom, which is why I want to know what made the man tick, what was his view of the world he lived in?
I’d also love to be able to spend endless hours with him in order to learn what his vision of our Nations future was.
What did he think our Nation would look like in 1850, or 1900, or even today.
