If you found a "military poser" would you confront him or her?

I know we are all proud of our military service past and present. We all take pride in our appearance on and off duty in and out of uniform and most of us like myself can spot a uniform infraction for several paces away. I am Soldier, not a Marine, a Sailor, or a Coast Guard member but even then I might be able to spot something irregular on a uniform if it looks totally out of place. With that said, if you suspect a "military poser" and sometimes it is easy to detect, would you confront that person no matter where you were such as a movie theater, a shopping mall, a wedding, or where ever, how would you approach this person? What would you say? I might approach that person for entertainment value but I would do so in a tactful manner and I would try not to make a scene. I'd definately get a picture for a potential MEME. If you have experience this first hand, please share your account of the incident.

I would confront that person, but I don't feel that I would take it as personally as some people tend to do. I would pull him/her aside and let them know that there are people like us, who have served, better people than them that have earned the right to wear that particular uniform, and that they should be ashamed of themselves. I wouldn't raise my voice, swear at them, or get violent as some seem to do. Unless, of course, the poser decides to make it that way, and then all bets are off...as well as their "uniform".

People often confuse me for a Veteran and I straighten that out right quick. I also bring my support dog places with me and people ask me if I'm a Veteran because of her. It is ironically the case that more often than not, folks think a person with a service or support dog is a Veteran. Takes a lot of guts to have a support dog... it's like a "label". Now I have to answer two uncomfortable questions about myself/her.

Nicci Eisenhauer - Some people have a lot of nerve and deserve to be insulted. Pretend you are deaf and ignore them. I wouldn't answer any questions from a stranger and you shouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable. I had a woman in a doctor's waiting room who kept asking me personal questions. I was rude and asked if she was writing a book then told her to mind her own business. She shut up after that. I don't reveal anything unless they have a need to know. Most people don't have a need to know.

Most definitely!!! Nothing more that boils my blood than stolen valor!! Or someone pretending to be in the military. We have all lost too many friends, brothers and sisters to just let people fake the funk!!!

Been there.. I did... They threatened to kick us off the train at the next stop if we didn't settle down. While it may be important to US, the people don't care about posers, at least off the internet they don't.

Looking back on it, he reminded me of the shorter of the two brothers on the show "enlisted".
It was pretty obvious.... E-5 type, no unit patch, pants horribly bloused, no haircut, scraggly beard, everything all wrinkly.
.. He might have successfully passed himself off as Quartermaster, but he insisted he was SF...

SFC Michael Hasbun - Crappy TV show. I gave it a terrible review on Amazon because it was disrespectful toward the military. I'm glad it was cancelled. It sounds like this creep was trying to imitate a character on a bad TV program and perhaps thought this was how a real serviceman would dress. They're all Special Forces or Navy Seals. Not one of them ever claims to be an infantryman or have some non-elite position. The real thing doesn't have to advertise and usually don't. That's like people who claim to be part of the Mafia or CIA. If they were they wouldn't tell you.
