If you go to Fort Campbell, do you have to do air assault?

I will soon be attending Fort Campbell after AIT and want to know if air Assault is a option or mandatory

It’s optional, but highly encouraged. If you’re given the opportunity, it’s worth the time, you will learn a lot, and you’ll only benefit from the experience!

When I was at Ft. Campbell, it was voluntary but highly encouraged. I was hesitant at going but I enjoyed it when I went. Enjoyed it even more when I was done. Opened the door to a lot of fun training afterwords.

My cousin got transferred there and was assigned to go through Air Assualt school so I'm guessing there's a good chance!

My brother just left there and is an instructor at your AIT. If you have him as an instructor you should ask him.
As I understand it's "optional" meaning your new PSG will tell you when you're going.

If your going to an air assault unit then you should be required to go unless their is a physical reason why you can’t . If you have to ask it makes me think your not really wanting to go but I could be wrong .

Air Assault is one of the easier schools in the army. If you’re fit and can pay attention to detail, and follow sequence you’ll be fine.

Don't wait, don't be anxious about it. It's a course that you'll love. Think about it, people pay good money to rappel and fast rope. It's like getting paid to do adventure training or an amusement park. Since you're fresh from Basic/AIT, you're in good shape, and your mind is primed to accept instruction.

Depends on the current CG. The first two years that I was at Campbell it was optional...new CG came in and it was mandatory for a leadership position and everyone else was voluntold.

It's called optional because your position isn't coded as requiring AASLT. However, local guidance expects the Army's only AASLT division to live up to that designation. Multiple levels of command will track this and communicate the expectation. Don't worry, though. You will attend a pre-AASLT pt program for a month to get you ready.

I was stationed at Campbell for about ten years. While air assault school isn't mandatory it is "highly encouraged". If you want to study something ahead of time, study the various aircraft and their capabilities. Number of crew, mission, lift capabilities, number of passengers allowed or ACL (Allowable Cargo Load). Otherwise just pay attention in class. Given that you are in AIT I would assume you are physically fit enough to get through it and your unit pretty much leaves you alone while you are in school.

When I was in it was mandatory, but I was 11B. I imagine that it is highly encouraged for all MOS. If you are going to make the Army a career my advice is to go for it you are young and in shape you will make it. The school is not very hard. It will also help you on promotion points later.

I know when I was there, it was all but required. I resisted initially, but my squad leader taught me to climb rope.. I'm proud that I managed to make it through.. it was a fantastic school. Air Assault!

When I was there in '06 if you didn't have your wings you weren't recommended for any Soldier/Promotion boards. Go, it's a 10 day blast and gets you away from your unit.
