If you had a break in service, how long was it and why did you decide to come back in?

Myself, I was out from February 1996 to December 1 2010, nearly 15 years. I always missed the fun and the belonging to something that really matters. I was in NYC on 9/11 and saw first hand the death of 3000 people. I also traveled to DC the next week and saw the hole in the Pentagon from my hotel room for 5 straight days. I was engaged at the time and that kept me away, and I've been blessed with two lovely daughters as a result of my decision. It always nagged me, though. After an illness in the family I started thinking about insurance in retirement and if I completed at least another 12 years I would have that. I was active from 88-92 and NG from 92-96. So back in again I went and it has been a great decision.

I never had a break, but I thought about ETS'ng theee different times before I hit 10 years. I've always had other dreams to pursue both I also have dreams and goals to achieve in the Military and my other civilian dreams will have to wait for at least 4 more years.

I had a 2 1/2 yr. break in service and I came back because the amount of time I had between active duty and National Guard would be wasted if I didn't at least finish out 20 in the guard.

I had a 10 month break in between hitches. When I got home from the first 4 years there was really no jobs. Found myself working in a fast food place that was going no where. So I desided to reenlist and go back to Germany for 3 more

I had a 5 year break, got a time job working for the goverment when contract was up had a choice to find another job or reenlist back into the Army to stay where I was. Ended up serving 30 years.

I had a three break after Vietnam and went back,in because I loved and missed the Navy.
