Based on my OLD memory I thing I would choose Kunsan. I am basing my opinion on my memory of 27 months at K6 (Camp Humphreys) which was a tiny little compound at the time (1968-70) and just up the road (not many miles but over an hour drive time) was Osan. I liked the base and the village. One thing Osan had that we did not was a shooting range we could use any time we wanted. Plus the PX and commissary was about 10 X larger. Our Brigade HQ was at Osan. Waegwan, just outside the gates, is the right mix of big enough and not too big. Carroll has an awesome pool with a waterslide but not too much more for the kids if you are bringing any. Big change of environment, and yet, I was fascinated by a sense of familiarity within this small installation. I enjoy, the train trip through the mountains of Korea to the town of Wae Gawn. Little quiet town that I admired as much as their people, that made my Korean experience so memorable. Learning to travel on my own in a foreign country with a different culture and language. I would stayed in a small transient room that D Company 802nd Engineers kept for 2nd Eng Group enlisted soldiers that were passing through and I would still be looking forward to this trip. I remember the local snack bar would be turn into a steak house on Wednesday nights, it was the effort of the community that I like. Morning breakfast were memorable at the dinning facility, where you could combine Korean and American food items. My mission was to hand-carry oil samples to the laboratories at this logistical center. And every time I would have to argue with the same employees to get the samples tested on the spot so I could hand-carry the results back with me. It was part of the trip, it was like engaging in a sport competition. I made these trips for 3 years so there were many trips to Camp Carroll. Thank you RP for allowing me this memory trip.
