Finley Air Force Station in North Dakota. That little radar base was the life blood of our little community and things have only been down hill since it's closure. That and of course I would have loved to get stationed there.

Richards Gebauer AFB Belton, MO. Purely Romantic, Selfish reasons. Grew up with it nearby and remember the A-10 HQd there. I used to occasionally use the Services there after I retired.

I'd trade anyone, to reopen any installation, anywhere, if we could close down Ft. Polk. Hood would be a close second, but then the Jade Helm folks wouldn't have a job. Giessien was very nice when I visited there, so maybe trade that for Polk or Hood?

The Presidio. Until its closure in 1995, the Presidio was the longest continuously operated military base in the United States. Second would be Ft. Ord.

Alameda Naval Air Station. Not only was it easy to get military hops from there, but I think it was wrong for the US Navy to close every single Naval installation in the San Francisco Bay area. It's a major port!

I would finish closing the ones from the BRACs, I mean really close them, get all the remaining military commands off which was the intent of the law. Now you have all these mini compounds that are harder to secure and lots of tax payers money has gone into building up their fence line since 9/11. Then I would do another BRAC.

Subic Bay - Olongapo provided no better way to re-stock the stores, top of with diesel, and blow off steam. I think monopolies were legal --'cause San Miguel beer was the only drink I could find (or maybe "afford?"). "Whisper Alley" and plates full of lumpia... ah, the memories. Well, at least of what I can remember!

Great Question. We Army folk are not known for our quality real estate. To keep our troops tough, the powers that be closed down Fort Ord, CA. It closed during my tenure and I spent a career hearing crusty and bitter CSM's gripe because they would never get to go back. I've never been, but out of respect to my mentors, I give you the newly reopened Fort Ord.

I would say Ft.Devens or Ft. Dix only because there aren't a lot of bases that are close to New England. The closest is Drum, Bragg, and the very small very hard to get assigned to Virginia bases. It's my own selfish reasoning no real thought put into it.

We need to get rid of real estate DoD doesn't need to do it's mission. Not only should we close installations, we should sell or otherwise dispose of the real property. Also select some bases as "office parks" and move organizations there that currently rent space in commercial buildings.
