Some higher HQ's are easier to work with than others on putting these guys out, it's a numbers game up top and even though they are not coming to drill, higher command if they decide to do so can still use the ssn in a numbers games when reporting. I was working a job that paid $11/hr and trying to support a household while having to drive 200 miles to drill and maintain my air crew member currency. I understood that I made a commitment and that I needed to maintain that commitment though. This individual needs to suck it up until the end of their enlistment. If you are not able to save the soldier, or they are not worth saving, just remind them that if they miss enough assemblies they will automatically be transferred into the IRR.

Additionally, make sure you get help and advice from your chain of command. I am sure the farther up you go, the more they will have dealt with this situation. Remind them of WHY they joined, not WHY they should get out.
If they moved or they are not happy, don't play prison guard as a Commander or 1SG, help them move on, just as someone helped you. See the link below.
If they are playing the U can't find me game. Then get 10 U letters, go through all the legal pain and transfer. If you can get in touch with the soldier remind them of other TPU, IMA, or IRR then coming back in after a short break.

http://www.usar.army.mil/Join-Us/Ways-to-Serve/IRR/

 IRR

Official site of the U.S. Army Reserve, the federal military reserve forces of the United States.

Response by LTC John Shaw made Nov 6 at 2017 10:14 PM 2017-11-06T22:14:33-05:00 2017-11-06T22:14:33-05:00 2017-11-03T08:28:53-04:00
