If you're the sole contributing child to a parents retirement, how do you handle it? I'm trying to make sure my Mom is comfortable.

Adult Children of Elderly Parents.
I was an only child of a Father who served in WWII who contracted Parkinson's Disease. I started a Support Group in Huntsville, AL and 90% of attendees served in WWII. As a result of caring for him, I was a guest speaker at Fort Bragg to educate Family Members of programs and services provided for their parents such as financial costs, Power of Attorney, levels of Home Care, etc. Over 40 Military Family Members attended this events. Later, churches around Atlanta requested my appearance. This issue needs more attention in Military Communities.

My wife and I are facing the same situation. Fortunately, my mother in law's house is paid for. We help her with home repairs, car repairs, and cell phone. She lives near us which makes it easy to visit and check on her. It really depends on your mother's financial and health situation. I feel obligated to take care of my parents because they have done so much for me. I can spare money when I need to and I don't mind paying for things they can't. The best gift we can give our parents is our time.

I can only imagine how difficult that is. That's a lot of responsibility to take on at any age. My grandparents, in-laws, and parents are all still working with no retirement on the horizon. If they weren't working and I was the one trying to help, I'd probably lose it. Kudos Sgt Biggs.
