Dining In is usually closed to all but the members of the mess. That is where you do skits, games etc. act up, hoot holler, etc.

Kangaroo courts under the watchful eye of the President of the Mess and adjudicated by the Junior Officer of the mEss, Mr Vice. Any and all infractions, real or imagined, are punishable by fines, trips to the Grog, or feats of entertainment value.

I put down a small revolt as Mr Vice, forcing the rebellious officers and NCOs to install a TA312 and common wire across he O Club to connect me with the President of the Mess. Safety first, I made them wear hard hats and tool belts I had in a giant bag of props. Think through the lunacy. Also think through

Public song, always a favorite. Recommend printing out lyrics to funny songs. Perhaps, lyrics of ridiculous pop songs, Navy songs, TV theme songs,

Dining Out, includes guests and spouses. It is usually a best behavior event and games/entertainment are not the order of the day. What I saw that was done well, was a dining out we did for All Saints Ball (where branch awards werpresented, order of Saint Barbara, Order of Samuel Sharpe, Saint Michael, etc). The games were during the cocktail hour at the beginning. There was a put-put course where you putted for prizes. Our club was on our golf course. They had a wheel of fortune where people spun for prizes. Once the call to mess sounded, all that was over. We had a guest speaker that was entertaining but brief. Then the President of the Mess (CG) ordered the retiring of the colors. Then the dancing etc, which is really the entertainment.

You only usually do skits and stuff like that in a Dining In. If your senior person pushes for it, find the funniest guy in your unit to write funny questions/multiple choice answers and build a Kahoot. Kahoot.com is the website. All the people in the mess can play through their phone. It can be as short or as long as you want.

I honestly can't help with the planning. But we had a Navy historical trivia game. We may have had a few other things planned to, but the CO's spouse had played the general Dining-Out game too long, and actually ran rings around our Mr. Vice in getting people out of his punishment. So, very few games for us.
