If you were invited to attend the 2017 Presidential Inauguration would you?

Plans are already being made for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. The events will include the Oath of Office, Inaugural Parade, and Inaugural Ball. Invitation lists are being made and in some case invitations are already being extended. What would you do if you were extended an invitation?

On the one hand, I would love to attend just because I enjoy politics, current events, and history. I could not afford the bill to attend so would have to pass it up. I bet the security for it all is tremendous in scope with snipers on roof tops, metal/explosive detectors at entry ways, and nuclear material detectors floating on the Potomac. It is a shame that such security is necessary for virtually any type of event.

Since I live in DC, the capitalist in me is thinking about taking a vacation and Airbnb my condo that week.
However, if the person I voted for gets elected, I may walk over to the National Mall since it will be open to the public. While there, I will take a selfie and post on the photo on RP with an “I told you so!”. ;)

I'd go. I'm a local. Might even shave and get a haircut.

However, DC is COLD in January. What's worse is it's next to a river. So it's wet and cold. Whatever politician decided to have OUTDOOR inaugurations was bloody stupid.

Honestly, why not? I live here, and it might be my last time to be near a President...the first Female one at that. I don't plan on staying here forever in this area. If I get invited to the ball, I'm taking Monica as my date. Should be a VERY interesting night......

All depends on who was being sworn in as POTUS. If it's Hillary, "he'll no" if it's Bernie, the useless SOB, I would shot myself. I guess it depends on whether or not Trump won. If Trump is the new POTUS I would go just to get a good look at his wife. Lol!

CPT Private RallyPoint Member I would not bother going unless it was an up close invitation. To sit or stand there through a long parade is not worth the effort. To attend a function where the new CiC will be at, that might make it all worth it.

I know this is an old post, but I will respond anyway. I did attend! I work as an ROTC Coordinator at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Our college band applied for parade participation in early 2016, before the candidates were even nominated. We found out we were accepted in December. The Band director, a Retired Army SGM, asked it the Army ROTC could lead the way. So the "Marist College Band and Spirit Team" was created, including the ROTC Color Guard, Marist Dance Team, Marist Band, and the Cheerleading Squad.

There was a lot of controversy and calls to boycott the event, but we went anyway. I am not a politically active person, but I am patriotic. So I didn't care who was standing in that grandstand, it could have been any candidate of any party. But when I walked past the grandstand and saluted, having the President of the United States salute back, it was one of the most emotional experiences I've had in my life.
