Beef Roast with Vegetables. Fingers crossed to get some Skittles in there. I also want to note that having your last meal would be depressing enough (assuming you were aware it was your last) -- and that the meal being an MRE would just be adding insult to injury. It's kind of sad to imagine, actually. "What do you want for your last meal, Brian?" -- "Oh, well here's an MRE instead. Have a good one!"

I've not tried all the new menus, but the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy is high on the list, and anything with with an ingredients list that begins with "pork, mechanically separated, chunked and formed..." is on the bottom...

The number 8, ham slice meal. It was a huge honkin' slice of ham (obviously with tobacco sauce), but it also had the the oatmeal bar crumble.

I've used that oatmeal bar on more than one occasion to field repair a coolant leak in a BFV. Crumble that sumbitch up and pour it into the cooling system...you're good for another 50 clicks before you need to open another MRE.

It'll stop a Bradley up as fast as it will a SPC on 6 weeks of maneuvers.

I don't know why, but I used to love the omelet with ham goo. Came with crackers and cheese. I used to eat it cold. But is also go with the hunk of ham or fingers of death. Worse was t-rats and chili Mac. Mres today aren't that bad. After a brown mre, we'd be constipated for two days or crapping out brains out for four.

There are a couple that I think are not too bad. The first one that comes to mind is the Southwest Style Beef and Black Beans with Sauce. Basically a mild chili.

The one with "bread"...or that little bread shaped thing, jalapeno cheese spread, and pound cake...except the lemon poppy seed one.
I don't know about y'all, but when I've been in the field, tired, and having struggled to open the plastic, my crazy comes out when I think I've picked a decent one and it contains dried cranberries, nut-raisin mix, or garlic mashed potatoes...or Skittles.

it was a love or hate one. I got all I wanted even back in C-Rat days when it was "ham and eggs, chopped" Always hit my palate well, and never messed with my digestion. I really miss it, too many modern attempts at variety vs. quality.

I'm not sure about the new menu's, but the Beans and Franks were decent, made Beanie Wienies with them. So was the Spaghetti, and Beef Stew. So, anyone one of those three. I'm going way back, 27 years back, and will say the dehydrated beef patty. LOL! I know, right? I don't think anyone liked those except me. I used to bring a few packages of ramen noodles tucked into my ruck to field exercises just to use with them. Beef patty and ramen into the canteen cup with some water. Heat until reconstituted and cooked. Add one or two of the concentrated cheese packets and the whole mini bottle of hot sauce. Yum.

I haven't seen it recently, but the spicy buffalo chicken with a ranger bar was in my (very short) list of top MREs.
*however- I would have to cook it using the heat fans in the back of an FLA that way it is nice and hot throughout the package.

For the modern ones, it would have to be sausage gravy. The older ones I ate back in the early '90s then the ham slice for sure.

I would have to go either chicken and dumplings or beef stew. Actually have one of each sitting at my house right now that I traded for during my last FTX. (Think I traded the Chili Mac for both of em, that stuff gives me horrible heartburn)

Mine would be the sirloin tips in a burgundy sauce. Yes we had those, they are for the Air Force only. Sorry all you non-Air Force people. We got those supplied to us in our air-conditioned tents by room service, before we turned off the cable tv and went to the pool.

French MRE's. We have no clue how to make them. Couldn't believe the maple bar made the crapsition from C-Rats to MRE's unscathed. Nothing can plug you up quicker than a MRE.
