When I was in, we said if we got deployed, that we'd take a German Shepherd, that's what a majority of the group wanted, thank you for the great share brother SFC Melvin Brandenburg

I'd take a beagle. loyal and protective. German shepherd is a great choice also.

Deploying with mascots is a long left behind tradition for a reason. This isn't Crimson Tide. It just creates one more thing that costs money without any real pay off. I think they serve a purpose in Garrison and Stateside for morale. PR and the like but on deployment it just seems like a bad idea that will only get worse over time.

SFC Melvin Brandenburg - I deployed with an Infantry Bn and spent most of my time at forward outposts. It wouldn't have been feasible for us to drag a Mascot around with us. Maybe at a large facility it would work but even then that would be a lot of work and logistics.
