The Army changes every few years. What I did when I was a Private would not work today. My advice is to always spend time in the infantry before they want to try Special Forces or something else like that. You can do that in the 75th. I will tell you that the 75th is loaded up right now. I am at Benning. They recruit a vast number of recruits when they only have a few slots. It is very competitive. I once tried to go to the 75th. It didn't work for me but I went to a scout unit instead. I really enjoyed my time and I was grateful for my ability to advance without things going the way I thought the should. Good luck with your training. Two the physical fitness level and the work to maintain it for Ranger was not for me as it would have ate more into my personal time off. Also, with the physical fitness level we could be talking preliminary wear and tear on various body parts. Nice to be a Ranger but there are also costs. Nice to be Infantry but there are costs. At the 3/75th is was nothing like the regular grunt life. First I worked my ass off to get in. Basic, AIT, Airborne then RIP (Now RASP.) You have to want it and get over all the mind fuckery that you're about to go through. And you may be an option 40 (if it's still called that) but that only promises a chance at the Selection and assessment. Basic and AIT are tough enough when you're a young kid far from home. Adding in jumping out of a perfectly good airplane and then the nightmare that is a selection and assessment course. I've seen people quit from the jump towers at Benning, I've seen others that couldn't handle the mental and physical stress of RIP. I also saw someone on here who spoke about the physical demands in your body. They're absolutely right. Special operations is a different beast. We get all the cool shit, and do some high speed stuff. But you also train for that A-L-L T--H-E T-I-M-E! It's very hard on your body. I've had 3 knee surgery a. When you land from an airborne jump you're going at least 13mph. Drop training only prepares you for so much. I also have compressed discs in my back, plate carrier, full combat load, full ruck and miles of road marches state side and many many miles of patrols on deployment. That all takes a toll on your body. Rangers do so much more then your average infantry. Bring 11Charlie isn't desirable because you're not completely trained as an infantryman. That will affect you when it comes time for promotions and school slots. You will still function as a ranger. You will most likely kick doors and fuck shit up. Or you might be stuck behind the lines listening to your brothers fuckin shit up and calling on your support. Either way, you're in Bat. You made it. You're a Ranger! Go drink, slay pussy (Tab chasers all over Benning) and wear that tab beret with pride. Some of the most bad ass mother fuckers I've ever met were in Bat. They went on to other bigger better things. But I digress, baby steps bro. Keep your focus, stay sharp, one step at a time and one school at a time. You may have had enough by the time you finish Jump school. And no longer desire that scroll. Yes the scroll, it's a way of life bro. The tab is just a school.
