In Israel they train ex special forces to conceal carry to act as a "second tier" of defense to terrorism. Should we?

Israel is the model for keeping their citizens safe. Until our citizens learn that some things need to change to vett their visitors like they do, to build a wall like they did, and have a nation of trained service members like they do, we will always lag behind. If we got attacked by multiple Arab nations like they did our fearless leader wouldn't admit we were under attack until they took his chair from under his butt.

Israel is a model of desperation. Everything about their armed forces is setup because they don't have an option, so I wouldn't call it the best option for keeping a nation's citizens safe. Our nation has the advantage of being geographically isolated, unlike Israel, so what works for them is not necessarily the right path for us. Protection on the home front is something that should always be within the realm of civil authorities and not the military...even if they are former military unless they are beholden to a civil authority.

Your DD-214 already qualifies you to get a conceal carry permit in Virginia.

Which is something I find sad. Very few service members actually have any creditable training in their military career to carry a concealed weapon. Matter of fact, I am actually scared of the weapons handling skills of many active duty members.

SFC (Join to see) - yeah, I agree there. In the Navy they give medals/ribbons for rifle and pistol so that's at least on my DD214. But yeah, there are people with very little weapons training who have served, which is fine, it's not always necessary. I just had the fortune of being auxiliary security force and LLVI in Afghanistan so I got a lot in my first two years. On the ship I barely had any.
