A lot of people forget a major shift in an MTOE Army wide say a Section Sgt for a given type of Unit, from E-5 to E-6 creates an increase demand for E-6's abut a decrease in the amount of E-5's. After reviewing HRC's past centralized promotion board MOIs the average secondary zone of consideration for SFC is two years TIG. Even though I have over a year before my first look I want to ensure I'm fully ready. I've reviewed my records and corrected any deficiencies/missing documents. However, AR 600-8-19 is fairly vague when it comes to sequence numbers.
If I understand everything correctly you get three looks for SFC which means my final look will be in FY21. My current E6 RCP is Oct '23. In a worst case scenario I don't get selected until my final look. This only gives me approximately 18 months for my sequence# to pop before I hit my RCP. If this worst case occurs while I be able to be retained until my sequence# hits or will I be forced out at my current RCP?
