In which Reserve component should I enlist in order to speed up my naturalization process and give me the best bet of getting a pilot slot?

As you appear to know, Jamie Tran you need a bachelors degree and US Citizenship to be an Air Force Officer. Recommend you enlist in the Air Force. Continue to work on Citizenship requirements while on active duty. Once sworn in as a Citizen, then apply for OTS and a pilot slot. Be sure to look at the requirements for entering pilot training on the AF.mil page. If you don’t think you can pass the physical, you may need to reconsider. As for enlisted AFSC, try to get into a flying speciality such as loadmaster, gunner, sensor operator, boom operator, or crew chief

Great answer. Physical and mental standards are high for pilots, and all require background investigations for clearances. The Air Force also gives preference for pilot slots to STEM degrees, so a finance BS will have you fighting an uphill battle.

Jamie Tran, let me correct and expand my answer taking Col Joseph Lenertz comments into account. I failed to respond to the Reserve Component part of your question. If you are intent on joining a Reserve Component unit, then definitely talk with both Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard recruiters. Also, in view of Col Joseph Lenertz statement about the Air Force preferring officers with STEM degrees for pilot training, I believe you should work on such a degree while you are enlisted. Your Arts Management degree probably won't help you get into pilot training. I didn't think much about the type of degree because no such requirement or preference existed when I applied during the Vietnam Era. We had engineers, business, music, and history majors in my pilot training class who completed the course and won their wings. However, as far as I know, only 2 of the 88 graduates stayed in past 5 years.

And to add in some information, I'm of Vietnamese descent and both my grandpas served in the ARVN, as far as I know my parents and close family have never been involved in any serious political activities nor have served in the current Vietnamese military. Does that affect the process of me getting my SSI ?? Secondly,as LT COL Jim Coe and COL Joseph Lenertz have stated, does my degree turn me into an underdog in the qualifying process ??? Finally, could I attend Active duty OTS while being an ANG/AFR enlisted and become an Active duty pilot ???TIA !!
PS : I believe I could run 2 miles in between 13:50 and 16:00.

You should speak with a recruiter, becoming a pilot requires quite a bit more than a nonrelated BA. The recruiting office will be able to explain all of the ins and outs.

That’s great advice from the Colonel. Before you enlist you may want to make sure you can pass a flight physical. How long have you had your green card? How much longer do you need to wait to meet the requirements for your citizenship? There’s an Army program called Street to Seat for Flight Warrant Officers. I know you want to be a Navy or AF pilot but if your end goal is to become a pilot, I would suggest the path of least resistance. Best of lucks.

To be commissioned you have to be a US citizen, what about WO1 that is not commissioned?

Great question MAJ Byron, even though a WO1 is not considered a commission officer, he/she is still considered an officer which requires you to have a secret clearance and you must be a US citizen to get one. I’m almost 100% sure that all officers across all branches have a secret clearance.

I've had my Green Card for 2 months and I'm waiting for the COVID-19 pandemic to become better in order to contact the recruiters and submit my naturalization pack. I know the Army offers Flight school for WOs but my dream is to fly a fixed wing fighter jet, not a Helicopter. Anyways thank you for your idea, Mister/Miss !! I will definitely check Street to Seat program !! Have a good day !!!
