This is a harder question for me. I've always loved Saving Private Ryan, but recently there has been some great movies released about the military and I think my new favorite is Hacksaw Ridge. However, that could change with tonight's release of "Thank You For Your Service". In your opinion, what's the best/most realistic movie about the military?

I would say for me it was "The Bridges at Toko Ri" probably an oldie for you, young man ,but for me personally the ambush scene in "Platoon" was the most realistic and honest portrayal of a grunts experience in Vietnam, gave me a few flashbacks that's for sure.

I think the "Taking Chance" should be mentioned in this category. An outstanding movie and one of the hardest things to watch that you will ever see.

Each of these high on realistic scale to me:
- We Were Soldiers
- Blackhawk Down
- Platoon
- Full Metal Jacket
- Saving Private Ryan

I would add Hamburger Hill, The Pacific, and of the older ones, Pork Chop Hill. Hacksaw Ridge gets high marks.
For an obscure movie few know about, Burt Lancaster in "Go Tell The Spartans", which also has one of the funnier scenes in a serious military movie when Lancaster explains why he never got promoted past Major.
