SSG Private RallyPoint Member 62864

I am putting together a Warrant Officer packet for 153A and would like some input from current Rotary Wing Aviators as far as the status of the impact to personnel due to the cutbacks. Are 153A's being looked at under any additional scrutiny for early discharges? Also just looking for general information to help me along the way. Information about the 153A field. 2014-02-23T11:10:39-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 62864

I am putting together a Warrant Officer packet for 153A and would like some input from current Rotary Wing Aviators as far as the status of the impact to personnel due to the cutbacks. I'm not sure "added scrutiny" is the right term, but I would say selections are probably tougher. In theory the scrutiny on the packets won't change but there certainly aren't as may flight school students going through per year as there once was. This of course leads to tougher selection rates.

As far as after flight school, there are no Selective Retention Boards being conducted for WOs (although I heard that one will start for CW5s next year), so this means just attrition through 2x non-selects. In general, Chinooks and Apaches seem to have the best promotion rates right now. Blackhawks seem relatively stable from year-to-year. With the divestiture of the Kiowa that has completely thrown turmoil to that community's promotion/retention rates and has somewhat affected peripheral communities as well by adding officers of varying experience and seniority levels into the mix. FW seems to have stabilized for promotion to CW3 this year, however promotion rates to CW4 and CW5 are more dismal than the other communities.

BLUF, promotions ebb and flow. If you were to become a WO tomorrow it would be 7 years before you get looked at for CW3 and who's to say what promotions will look like then. Promotion to CW2 is a virtual guarantee at the 2 year mark, short of you having a DUI, GOMOR, or something of the like.
