When transitioning from IRR to the Reserves and reclassifying to 12B OSUT, will I have to do BCT again? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/irr-to-reserve-reclass-osut

I just switched from the IRR to Reserve, been out of Active for almost 3 years. The sergeant showed me how long training is for a reclass and it shows 14 weeks and she said it’s not with IET , it would be with other reclass , I don’t really understand because from what I’m reading it shows AIT portion of the OSUT for 12b is 5 weeks, but she’s telling me 14 weeks, so am I having to do BCT over again? She said it doesn’t include BCT, I just need better understanding on how this works because my wife and I are so confused. I was sent to Fort Leonard Wood for AIT. While the IET were experiencing OSUT, I was there only for the AIT portion of it (5 weeks at the time). And yes, I trained with the IET.

I can't tell you if you would have to do BCT all over again, but my instinct tells me you would NOT have to go through BCT again (because I did not have to repeat BCT even though it had been only 3 years prior) . Worst case scenario (if you have to go to FLW), is that you would get to the training company about a week or so prior to their BCT graduation (as that happened to me).

I am not sure if 12B MOS training is conducted anywhere other than FLW. I went to MOS-T school at Camp Ravenna, Ohio for 12b and the class was 16 days. Two days for in process/out process and fourteen days of instruction. I got back in myself in 2023 in feb and just got back from another MOS-T course for 14g. However, this one was different from the 12b class because it also included active duty personnel from Campbell, Bragg, and Bliss.

That leads me to believe that they send people to where the classes are most available. In the past it seemed like the active side of the house would do everything possible not to mingle with the NG. Maybe manning issues are forcing their hand, or perhaps since the reserves are federal they just send more people to federal AIT to reclass. I was out for 3.5 years and didn't have to repeat basic, even though 14g school itself was as long as reception/bct.

Before the manning issues they were bouncing people between 3 and 5 years out (depending on whichever fiscal year you happened to try and reenlist) to repeat basic. I have no idea if that has recently changed. Lucky for me when I reenlisted they said it was back up to the five year mark before you had to repeat basic.

I think I remember some of the active guys saying their orders for the 14g reclass showed the AIT length for active duty or initial entry soldiers which was another five weeks tacked onto the eleven that we did at the RTI. However that wasn't the case. Their orders showed the 16 weeks, but we only did eleven. I don't know if this will be true for you,but since 12b is normally OSUT, maybe they are just showing you the same 14 weeks like they were showing the full 16 weeks for our AD guys for 14g.
