Common Access Cards also known as CAC&#39;s are ID cards but they are also known as smart cards as they have a chip on them that allows for network access. There are other types of ID cards but it&#39;s nowhere near what you think. There are CAC&#39;s which are assigned to military members, civilians employees and contractors. There are also regular ID cards for retirees and dependents. There are also green military IDs which are less common these days. These colored cards are non smart card ID cards. But to answer your question, no there are not RACs SSgt Christophe Murphy Wed, 16 Jun 2021 14:00:35 -0400 2021-06-16T14:00:35-04:00 Response by MSG Gary Eckert made Jun 16 at 2021 2:04 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-a-cac-the-final-form-of-dod-identification-or-is-there-another-level?n=7050412&urlhash=7050412 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Sorry no ranked access card. Common refers to the ability to grant access across different systems. For example the gate guards scan my CAC against a DOD database from DMDC to determine whether it has been revoked, a local database to ensure I have not been banned from the base, and commercial database to determine if I have warrants before granting me access to the base. When I get to my office my CAC is bounced off of the c-cure system to determine whether I can gain access to the building and then at various doors to determine whether I can enter that area. Finally, when I sit down at my desk, the tokens embedded on the CAC allow me access to both the computer and different programs/sites with that computer. One card (common), multiple accesses. It is not the only access card though, for example to see my Doctor I have to provide my retired identification card which has the same DOD ID number as my CAC.
