Is a Marine ever NOT required to wear a white skivvy shirt under their Charlies?

I have a tattoo on my chest, that doesn't go past my collar bone but will show if I am not wearing a skivvy shirt. The current policy says that if it does show, then it is unauthorized, BUT as far as I am concerned we will never be told to not wear one, so you wouldn't see it anyway. Am I in regs or no?

As I would see it, as long as it does not show while in ANY uniform, then you are good to go.

You answered your own question - You stated the regulation and then stated your opinion lol... That being said wearing a t-shirt is optional, excluding a few circumstances - one of which was mentioned. If you can see the tattoo then wear the T-shirt. You can look the orders up from Marines.mil, in the Marines section under the MCO. The uniform order is MCO P1020.34G W/Ch 1-5. I would double check the uniform order and the tattoo regulations to verify BUT remember this - A Commander may require the wear of T-shirts for uniformity/formations/parades etc.

Would they make Chesty Puller wear an undershirt to cover up his ink? There is your answer . Plus if you have a forearm tat it is exposed regardless. Never saw anyone disciplined for ink.

Ok, yes I'm a female but I always wore an under shirt in all my uniforms. One you never know when higher up will say time to PT, or you may break out in a sweat for no reason. The under shirt (the right one) will wick away all that moisture thus protecting your uniform. Think smarter not harder. Yes they make under shirts for females.
