Will it result in a race war? In many ways, it already has. Will it get worse and turn into an all-out war? I think we are certainly on that path and will continue down it unless we take back control of out country.

I have long been an advocate of reestablishing the rule of law in our own cities before we go off and try to do so in other countries. We need to clean up Baltimore, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Miami, Detroit, and many more places before we worry about cleaning up some third-world hell-holes.

Yes... I suspect not as close as it looks. Instead, I look at this from a Hegelian perspective (Oh no, a philosophy major! RUN FOR THE HILLS!). Hegel posited that there was a natural flow to human advancement where old ideas (thesis) meet new ideas (anti-thesis), there's a bunch of pain and confusion and then we incorporate it all into a new mode of thinking (synthesis). He called all that a dialectic. It actually makes total sense when you look at the push and pull of major historical movements and even our own personal journeys. Change hurts and new ideas, especially those that challenge deeply held beliefs are extraordinarily painful.

I think we're in that pain point with regards to race. The last one was during the Civil Rights movement. We've gotten comfortable with the idea that minorities have the same rights and now we're facing the fact that the minority populations have grown to the point where they can demand to be heard. Until now, it was easy to say "you're equal, but your experiences can be summarily dismissed so that I can remain comfortable in my version of reality."

Yeah, about that.

On the plus side, most of these things end without more than isolated violence and we're all better off afterwards.
