Is a spouse qualified for VA medical coverage after the death of Husband?

My husband, a veteran from the Navy, passed away a couple of years ago. I would like to know if there is any medical coverage available for a spouse?

In some cases a Veterans spouse may be eligible for medical coverage. But you also may be eligible for the spouses disability compensation if the dealt is a result of that disability.

Now if you are taking about TRICARE

TRICARE continues to provide coverage for family members when a sponsor dies. Family member health plan options and costs will vary based on: The sponsor's military status when he/she dies. If the surviving family member is a spouse or child. The scenarios below provide an overview of survivor coverage. Not from the VA, but you are eligible for TRICARE benefits.

Here is a lot that goes into it as indicated earlier. First he would have to have been a participant with the VA based on a disability or disabilities. As for Tri are you are only eligeable if your spouse was a retiree. Go to the site recommended and read the page or two of scenarios to see if you fit into any. Depending on his veteran status and the tnliness of your marriage you may even be eligeable for a monthly stipend. Again, best bet is to go to the site and read.

Contact your County Veteran’s Services Officer. Try to set up an in person appointment. Bring copies of your husbands discharge, DD-214, with you and any VA Compensation documentation. You’ll need to have his Social Security number, his military service number is on his documents and his dog tag( if you have one or both dog tags.).

Spouse survivors of deceased veterans whose deaths that have been determined to be service-connected are eligible for medical coverage under CHAMPVA if they are not eligible for coverage under Tricare. Generally Tricare eligibility is provided if the veteran was a retiree (20+ years of service) or a medical retiree.

Was the deceased spouse 100% Disabled, and was the spouse the care giver? In that situation I believe there is a rule allowing the care giver spouse VA health care.
