When I appeared at his office I was told that my ASVAB score was high enough to be consider for the USMA Prep School, when I looked into it it turned out I was about 6 moths too old for consideration. Selection was based on ASVAB scores. Back then (1980) you had to go see the CO, but these days they might recruit electronically. I would check it out and accept the offer if legit. I passed. I already had one year of college, and had no intention of doing prep school and then four years at WP. Besides, I was doing my two years AD and that was it. Thirty three years of AD and reserves, I hit my MRD; who knew? Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 11 at 2018 5:39 PM 2018-08-11T17:39:47-04:00 2018-08-11T17:39:47-04:00 Capt Daniel Goodman 3872164 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you’re getting that do it one junior airman where I was got USAFA do it can be done the major academies all three have prep schools separate from the academies themselves look also at VMI my best friend from USAF went there also look at Citadel and the maritime colleges the states run look up all the Wikipedia pages on all I’d said one trick little known is that ROTC unit commanders can nominate for the academy for their svc look also at USMMA Kings Point my next younger brother went there I commissioned him the Army ROTC unit I’d been in before I went USAT OTS instead drilled a good deal at Wset Point I did all that with them had I know my PMS could’ve nominated me I’d have asked I did orienteering drilling rappelling with cadets aye with them stayed in their barracks trust me do it call them and ask them to submit you trust me you wouldn’t have gotten it if you weren’t really being noticed I assure you I’d be most eager to hear or chat more whenever you’d want.... Almost never USMA. If this is legitimate you need to bring it to your command. Look seriously at your choices. I personally turned down opportunities to become commissioned. One of your responses below mentioned bringing a spouse. Marriage as a cadet is not allowed. Cadets cannot have any financial or time obligations to an ex-wife or children. Cadet cannot have burdensome debts or other obligations that distract from 100% devotion to the academy. I may not totally accurate for current liberty policy, but my first years 4th class cadets were only allowed time off base from 1200-2200 Sat and from 0600-1800 Sun, plus holidays.<br />Write back to sender for more information. Go to the West Point website review academic and physical requirements and other small print. Going to any of the four armed forces academies is a nine year commitment. If it is not for you, look into ROTC programs. Lt. that remembered me from the DMZ in Korea. I was asked to transfer to the SF, he said I was one of the best solders he met on the DMZ.<br />At that time I was so deticated to my unit with the 82nd, I declined the offer, still today I can kick myself in the butt for not transferring, if I did, I&#39;ll be probably living at Spring Lake today.<br />Lesson learned, Lesson taken, so when back at home while in the police department, I was asked to go SWAT, I took the job and never regretted it. Those requirements, however, are nowhere near what one typically needs to finish out that training. So this is probably the same thing - you meet the basic metrics, and they&#39;re seeing if you&#39;re interested. Certainly, I&#39;d check it out. What have you got to lose? I was stationed there as a part of the Staff &amp; Faculty back in the early-to-mid eighties. The cadets that were prior service and / or had gone thru the Prep School were some of the best ones I saw and dealt with in my role. <br /><br />We had one of our programmers who had applied and been accepted. He spent a year at the prep school, and then came in as a cadet. Being 18 years old and into a 3 year enlistment by only a few weeks, I did not have the ability to think ahead through the additional years that would be required and turned down this opportunity. The worst that can happen is they will tell you no, you didn&#39;t make the cut and if you make it, you will get one of the best free educations out there. Not to mention that West Pointers are one of the nation&#39;s oldest Good Old Boys Club.
