Is Active Federal Service waiverable for OCS?

For the last three years of have been working on my degree and credit so that I could eventually drop an OCS packet. Finally everything is good to go. However, I hit my six year mark this month in the Army, which makes me ineligible for OCS. Is AFS waiverable? I can't find any info whether it is or not.

Per the latest MILPER...it isn't waiverable from my understanding for active or reserve OCS applicants. The NG however has a different AFS requirement and there's also the Warrant option.

Given the current drawdown...the current AFS requirement of no more than 6 years is most likely directly correlated to that. If active duty OCS is you're desire over the other options...then you can always play the waiting game. The requirements seem to change every 1-3 years for OCS.

The question that comes to my mind is, would this 6-year mark have any play if you separate from the Arny and apply to OCS as a civilian? A follow-up question with applying as a civilian is, are there more OCS seats available as a civilian vs AD? A comment about applying to OCS is your Army service works in your favor applying as a civilian over non-military applicants. Curious thoughts!!

Are you only fixated on being an O in the Army, or have you looked into the requirements of the other branches? Might be more than one way to skin a cat and make a difference.

You can always call DA and ask the questions you have regarding your plans to attend OCS. Due to the RIF it's going to be difficult because most things that were once waiverable may not be this fiscal year. My advice is to stay informed using the S1net and call DA. Like CPT Johnson said it usually changes when the demands of the Army change. Good luck!

SGT Roodly,

HRC came out with a new MILPER for OCS requirements and when you look over it there is nothing about TIS. I got curious and gave HRC a phone call and they said they moved it to a different document. After a little more prodding they stated that it is now 10 TIS or less. I have 8 years TIS and I am putting the packet in for this upcoming January board.

TIS that is under 10 can apply, but you don't want rejection at this stage either, so how do you proceed 1LT Private RallyPoint Member?

I guess I am confused. You refer to OCS, your profile lists you as an Officer now?
