Is anyone here an AMEDD recruiter or have experience with direct commission? I have some questions about the process.

I just finished my MSW and am interesting in returning to the Guard or Reserve through Direct Commission. I am a former enlisted Army Guardsman. I know that you need an LCSW to get in as a full social worker. Can I come in as some kind of behavioral health officer or health administration officer? Is it better to wait until I have the LCSW (and come in at a higher rank)?

SPC Gabriel Botero Jr., MSW, LCSW I had a friend who went AMEDD as a registered Nurse at ODU in Norfolk. It was a two year program. Got more info coming your way.

You need your LCSW to be eligible for a DA as a 73A. We do have the SWIP program for Regular Army.

Normally all masters level program applying for AMEDD comes in as 1LT, 73A is one of them. It would be best if you can come in with your LCSW and then you can apply directly. Its competitive for sure and not automatic. As the MSC Branch is looking for the best from around the country

You can be brought in as a 70B until you accrue the clinical hours needed.

I am also interested in the SWIP Program, however I will not have my MSW until May 2017. I am currently studying Mental Health, Clinical Social Work at Columbia University. I'm interning at Manhattan VA and will be interning in the fall for the academic year at Walter Reed. I'm weighing my options between SWIP and Reserves for 73A. I can get my license in NY in May 2017 once I graduate, but it will just be my LMSW, not LCSW. I'm wondering how competitive it will be for SWIP in 2017 and what kind of package I will need to submit, my former boss is a MoH recipient and offered to write me a letter of recommendation. Also what are the PT requirements?
