Is anyone preparing for a special school (ie airborne or RASP) or new job (ie SFAS or warrant) and have anything they would like to share?

I have been thinking about options available to me and would like to hear what some of Soldiers, either junior, senior, officer, or enlisted are doing and how they are preparing for it.

I am preparing for my first 1SG position. Basically I am catching up on Doctrine and killing it in the gym/diet, I gotta keep up with those young bucks!

that's what I'm doing too. I have really refocused my efforts on my fitness and health...quit smoking, eating better, cut out the soda, and working on getting rid of caffeine. who would have thought that would be the hardest.

I've been without caffeine sugar or alcohol for 2 weeks... it's rough at first, but now the caffeine and sugar don't really bother me.

1SG (Join to see) Top, if i could give any advice it would be to ensure your previous 1SG had a good system for DA-6,
Training, all rosters - and now with the new system inputting each soldiers information in to training upload is going to critical for success. Nothing worse than going to battalion training meetings and numbers don't match slides and its good you're getting your PT on. 3 companies talking...Respectfully

Appreciate your response. Having to purchase items for school is good knowledge, thanks for bringing that up. Also, finding the time to go is another good point. I was an AIT Platoon Sergeant, which is similar to drill so I get the time constraint issue. I'm worried that I may be heldback due to my age and rank, so I'm thinking go to Air Assault, then Airborne, then maybe RASP then see of they will take me for SFAS. I keep getting deployed though so I don't know if I will ever get enough time to make it ok to. family time is more important than making time for the schools I want to go to.

Last I knew the limit for SFAS for SFCs was 6mo TIS and that is only if you are already Ranger or Airborne. It may have changed, but I don't think so. Head over to professionalsoldiers.com, they will fill you in with everything you need to know.

sfc gates, one of the reasons for allbifbthe schools is that I have read/heard the same thing sfc Stockton said about the TIG/TIS and needing these schools in order to help your chances. I don't know if I would ever get a chance to go to selection, but I am bored with the "regular" army and have entirely too much time left to just go the normal route. I hope that doesn't sound conceded...

SFC Pate, we all feel that way sometimes, I'll tell you though, now that you're out of the school house and in that platoon sergeant position, you may end up finding it fulfilling. I know I did. Best Job I've had yet. No better feeling than seeing your privates/specialists turn into GOOD NCOs.

I am preparing for SERE-C. Basically just trying to accept the fact I'm going to have some fun in the woods for a few weeks and just to take it as it comes. Also, making sure to get plenty of rucking in for the long days.
