Commanders will wait until commanders all the way up the chain make a policy and then copy that policy so their priorities are "nested" with higher. It's pretty funny that the Army already had a policy on this subject and it wouldn't be that hard to dust it off. From April until September you could wear jungle boots and roll your sleeves. Yep it was that simple.<br /><br />Here at Fort Stewart, 3 ID we are waiting for the 18th Airborne Corps Commander to tell us if it's alright to roll our sleeves. It just kills me how afraid leaders are these days. If I'm not in formation why can't I have my sleeves rolled? Uniformity when I am conducting my daily business is irrelevant. Now, if 1SG says sleeves are down in formation well, I just pull them down and go to formation. It's not rocket science.<br /><br />Oh, and on another note, we are conducting pay day activities on Friday and the uniform is Class B with short sleeve shirt...because it's hot. Unbelievable! I will be showing up with rolled sleeves at my next IDT. In the absence of higher policy/direction I am making the call that it is ok for my people until told otherwise. (in particular since this won't be an outdoor drill... But I can understand why:<br />Privates.<br />In TRADOC land, we don't like change. We prefer to stick to familiar doctrine and behaviors. So the Command Teams are not exactly loving the idea of changing the way we wear the uniform, when we are going to then have to spend countless hours teaching, correcting, re-teaching and then correcting again, when the Privates screw up even this simple task.
