Our Autumn has started, and those who have been living here a lifetime are seeing signs among the vegetation (fireweed), and many of the animal species, that the winter could be especially harsh. We will just prepare for the worst, as we do every winter, and hope for the best. What more can you do? This one is predicted to be a one-in-50 year event. Like the drought is a one-in-100 year occurrence. They need the water, but stand by for floods and mudslides. Along with more climate change warnings, even though it is cyclical. If the weather predictions are correct, the West Coast could get clobbered this winter.<br /><br />While we desperately need the rain (even WA state is in a major drought and wildland fire emergency right now) torrential rains after drought and bad wildland fires will result in tremendous mudslides, which could add to the devastation. This is especially true in areas where developers have put houses in precarious positions on mountains (ala Malibu) or in slide zones (ala Oso WA)...
