If you watch the rest of the interview, you really get a sense of how humble Chris Kyle was as a person. Always trying to deflect praise and credit the team and his equipment and training. You know, that says a lot.

The narrative is a tall tale. Not the first service member to stretch the truth for the sake of the story.
How humble can you be when the story you create is so much bigger than the truth?
Are the enhancements an integrity violation?
The legend of Chris Kyle is worth aspiring to, but is the man truly the hero he is made up to be?

True heroes never ever think of themselves as heroes. Just a guy, or girl, who happened to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right skill set. A job needed doing, they could do it, they did it.

Chris Kyle was a true hero and humble human being. The best thing we can do during this time when certain ignorant Hollywood actors talk negative about him, is to just practice humility and respect by allowing the ignorants to practice their free speech that he defended (as do we all). As much as I would LOVE to just go nuts on some of those Hollywood idiots who talk about something they know nothing about nor can they even fathom. Of course in person I may have a few words to share :)

I served in the 80s did not get to see combat ,but my hats off to all you bros who did ,and to this man Chris Kyle ,who I'm sure saved plenty of American lives,now I know there are bleeding hearts who may not like this,but I don't give a f@@k who he greased if it saved American lives, cause in the end American Blood is the only Blood that matters to me.

Thanks for sharing this interview. Kyle was a great American. He seems to be "your average joe," which just adds to it all.

Kudos to Conan for the "You don't have to call me sir" comment.

My only problem with your comments is in the form of this question. How can you make such a bold statement unless you were there first hand? I know i have had some soldiers in my squad or platoon that had done stories i questioned but I never shot it down since i wasn't there unless I got further information.

There should be no doubt that Chris Kyle was a hero. Unfortunately, I think civilians associate the term "sniper", with the many celluloid depictions of German, Russian, and Japanese "snipers" from WWII. The purpose behind our employment of sniper teams is, I think, fundamentally different than just the demoralization of the enemy, or striking terror into their hearts. The basic difference here is that we are not fighting a uniformed enemy, who adheres to the laws of armed combat, but an opponent who is unidentifiable, who wants civilian casualties. Snipers like Chris Kyle are saving lives, both military and local civilian. Our Hollywood folks just don't get it, for the most part.
