But as this country and political system shifts from one side to the other in the short term, we generally end up well in the long term. It may be perceived that we stick our noses into issues that don't concern us (no national interests maybe), but as the saying goes - If not us, then who? If not now, then when? When something not so good happens in the world, its gets people's attention when they see a US carrier off the coast, either in a humanitarian role or otherwise. So, do we have the obligation to respond only because we are the only ones who can? And if we don't respond and any innocent people die, are we guilty of neglect?
