This may not apply based on the pictures I see in the discussion group, but I think it fits based on the question. Be careful to err a little on the side of going too THIN for your breakline. I would suggest hands width on top, if you go thinner, it could be considered a "Mohawk" which some Commanders may consider faddish as well, even though (in Airborne units) we have historical precedent for them (WW2 Operation Overlord) our BN CDR forbade them even as we getting ready to board the planes for deployment and made a few shave completely and then grow it back out. When I was in MCJROTC, I was taught put your hand on top of your head and the barber cleans everything not under your hand, and it has always served me pretty well as a guideline. Good luck with your essay

I have seen the kind of haircut that SPC (Join to see) is alluding to in all of this. It's a shaved side with a mop of hair on top that when not gelled into place looks like a bad day at the Hunger Games. Fade is the key and it's hard to fade from skin into 2 inches of flowing god-like hair on the top. Again, this isn't a beauty contest. Another thing is that according to AR670-1, and US Army policy, you have to be within regulations at all times, both on and off duty. So, you can't let that thing go when you're not working.

The "Long High and Tight" became fashionable after Connor McGreggor sported it for quite a while.

nothing new at all. baloney. Look at WW1, WW2, Vietnam, and pics from any generation since. Lots of guys have this. Half my battalion had this and if you think we weren't the Army standard you are wrong. I was in The Old Guard and nobody minded it. It is a matter of grooming the top part to stay neat. I'd take a division of guys with hair like this over one senior NCO or officer with that ridiculous Zorro had a kid with hitler mustache anyday

SGT Jeffrey Tyree, first of all, AR670-1 didn't exist then. This haircut doesn't taper in the back properly, nor on the sides. In a field environment, it would be an absolute disaster. If your Command Sergeant Major let half of your battalion rock this without guidance, shame on him. And...to be fair...I said it depended on the length of the hair. This guy's hair is too long in back and the bangs are way out of reg. That's gotta be about 3-4 inches of hair. I haven't seen a senior officer with a mustache since 1990. A CSM with a mustache immediately loses cred.

Also, the issue is Darshawn's hair. I assume he is somewhere between these two photos and got scuffed up because of it.
