This was outlined, I believe, in ALARACT 288/2010. Can SSD be completed in the amount of time given....certainly, as long as they forego anything else in life and do nothing but SSD all day and all night. But to realistically expect a married Soldier living off post the complete SSD between a Saturday and 0600 Monday is a tad nuts. Can a Soldier be counselled for not completing it? Certainly, as they were given a directive. HOWEVER.....is it appropriate? No in my opinion. How long have they been enrolled? That aside, SSD 1 or 2 is NOT hard and can be completed in a reasonable amount of time if the Soldier puts forth some effort. So what if they live off post and they are inconvenienced for a weekend? Are we supposed to give them a teddy bear to hug too? SSD is self selecting and doesn&#39;t require your counseling or benefit from it. If the SM doesn&#39;t complete their SSD in a timely manner they will receive an DA initiated Bar to reenlistment. If they don&#39;t finish it within a year from that they will be separated.<br />Whether the SM had time to do it at work will be irrelevant when that year hits. However you could counsel a Soldier on anything. But it doesnt make it right. We need more info on this situation. How long have they been told to be working on this? Is the Soldier almost completed or have not stated the SSD yet? SFC Private RallyPoint Member Sun, 10 Feb 2019 09:01:23 -0500 2019-02-10T09:01:23-05:00 2019-02-09T13:43:08-05:00
