Is it illegal to possess an official Army Jump Manifest?

I was told it was illegal to have one in your possession after you leave the Army by a retired Army MSG. Is that true and if so.......why is that? Just curious. I don't have one (story behind the question not really relevant to the question).

If its an older jump manifest that lists SSNs of the jumpers it could be considered a violation of the Privacy Act. So in a way the MSG might be right. While its common to hold on to a jump manifest to prove number of jumps as safety or jumpmaster for admin purposes later, it would be best to mask or cover other soldiers private info.

Nah I’ve got copies I needed to to turn in for credit. Pretty sure nowhere on the manifest does it say “destroy when you retire”

I just saw this and had to laugh very hard, I have a couple of actual generated manifest, Jumpmaster copies not record copies, never heard of that BS, and that is BS of the smelly type. The SSN worry is a real concern but easy to fix, but if that was a big issue the army would have to stop doing mass orders for EIB's, CIB's etc since the SSN is on those mass orders. I have an AttaBoy book with numerous SSN's in them from my orders. If you see this MSG again tell him to cite the reg/law that makes it illegal. I think I will just sit back with a beer and await the Govt SWAT team rolling up on me for 30 year old manifest :)

I don’t know about illegal. I have a copy in my IPERMS. For some reason they put my jump records to include a manifest from pathfinder school under “flight records.” I still have the originals in a box somewhere.

When I was in all orders, manifest, and the like included SSN. I have a file cabinet in my basement loaded with old travel manifest. When I retired my old military files ended up there. From time to time I am contacted by some of my old soldiers who are in need of a page with their info on an order. Stuff from Desert Storm, authorizing combat patch. Orders from our tour in Bosnia as part of SFOR. That sort of thing. An honorable man will not violate a brothers trust. So all that info will stay there in my files until I reach the 20th anniversary of my retirement. By then all of my old soldiers will be past the years of needing anything I might have. I'll burn it.

About the same as mission documents from Iraq. I checked with S2, they said to redact SSN then could be used for historical purposes.
About the same type of deal as I see it.

There is nothing illegal about keeping those in Your possession but like any other document don't share information on others listed on the document such as SSAN. i wouldn't dispose of the paperwork, keep it, it part of Your own History and if You weren't entitled to have it it would not have been given to You in the first place. I doubt You become less trustworthy to look after the information after retiring than while You were still in uniform and would still safeguard the information on other people contained on that manifest. The MSgt is mistaken !
