I would really like to be in aviation as an officer and wanted to know if this made a difference. Thanks

I cannot speak to aviation specifically but I can share a story about a previous Army decision. I went to Officer basic with a medically trained chiropractor. After 8ish years of college to include specialized training in chiropractor(y), he joined the Army to be in the medical field and to perform what he spent so much time and money training for. The Army, in all its wisdom, made him a 42A instead so he could learn to process paperwork rather than utilize his medical training.

If your dream is to fly, not command, not necessarily be in a leadership role the going Warrant is the way to go. Your primary duty will be to be an aviator, you will probably never lead but you WILL fly. I can say with out a doubt that if flying is what you want to do the there is no better option than to put in a Warrant Packet and go to flight school that way. If you have questions or need help with the process let me know and I will do my best to point you in the right direction. Ultimately the decision is yours but if flying is what you want to do, Warrant is the way to go.

I would like to do both, is that the reality for a 2lt? I was wondering how you go about get your airframe assigned as well? Is an aptitude thing or luck of the draw?

If you want both then being an Officer is the choice for you. Understand that Officers do not fly nearly as much as Warrants. You will fly enough to remain current but do not expect to fly as much as you would like. Warrant Officers are the primary aviators in the Army and I do not see that changing.

Hey man,
I’m also just starting my packet, so this is just my opinion
If you can get it done on VA, my opinion is go for it. If not, be prepared to spend big money of helicopter training.

One of the things I did before I invested money was visit some of the smaller flight schools around me to see if they would allow me to sit in on some of the ground schools. You obviously won’t get any credit towards your license, but the ground knowledge and technical info Iearned helped me keep my costs down later on. Not to me ruin you will meet tons of great people along the way who share a love of aviation
