Is it okay to attend WOCS with this rucksack?

Part of the WOCS packing list, it states a Large Rucksack.

My unit only issued this medium Rucksack & the assault pack.

I don't want to get disqualified for this small discrepancy.

Has anybody who's attend WOCS, has seen a candidate with this Medium Rucksack?

You will need a full size ruck sack. I was at MotherRucker in 2014 and we needed the full size ruck with frame. Use it on the road march for sure. They don't play around with the packing list. TAKE EXACTLY WHAT THEY TELL YOU TO BRING! ;-)

I was there in 2013 and I'm pretty sure that you can get the ruck issued at CIF while in processing. They will issue everyone gear for purposes of uniformity. If that ruck was all you were issued then bring it, and bring your CIF records as proof.

They gave you a list of things. Throws things are what you WILL need. It will be very hard to stuff a Med. Ruck with things that will only fit in a Large Ruck. Been there dun that. You want to be a Warrant ?? Get the right stuff.

LOL. When I went it didn't matter if you brought the right stuff or not - you were gonna be wrong. Write a memo. At the end of my class they said "we hope you didn't spend $500 on uniforms to come here, you didn't need to." I spent about $600. Things have changed much since 1995 - for the good. Some of the CW2's and CW3's in my unit don't know what a "square meal" is, nor "pig rights." I'm glad those days are over so hopefully more well qualified NCO's are willing to go to WOCS. Good luck!

WOCS will issue you a ruck suck if you don't have one. Just let them know right away.

Just go to CIF with your orders and draw a full size ruck if you have to ask this question or can't follow the packing list maybe you need to stay enlisted come on NCO lead the way!!!!!

I graduated this month. These days they can issue you the ruck at CIF, but they may not have enough for an entire class. If there's, say, five from your class that don't have a ruck, you'd be ok. Since they don't do the Field exercise anymore, the only time you use the ruck is for the 5K and 10K.

Also, the quality of the gear you get from CIF...varies, to say the least. It's usually serviceable, but comes with years of dirt, grime, and candidate's tears.

To summarize, bring the standard ruck if you have it. But don't spend any money to get one if you don't.

When you clear or before you clear CIF talk with them about a large ruck. It is a PCS move so you should have to clear post. We did not have to bring that stuff and the school had it there.
