Is it okay to talk trash about other branches?

At the end of the day, we all serve, and we all raised our hands and swore an oath to this country. However, I personally think there is nothing wrong with friendly rivalries as long as it is done in "good fun." Anyone have any other comments?

As long as it doesn't leave the realm of jest, nothing wrong with a little fun. In many ways, the branches are like siblings. We have are internal fights and rivalries, however, we're there for each-other when it matters.

Everyone talks smack about other organizations in their area of interest. The best high school in their district, the best college in their conference, the best service in the country. I think its a healthy thing as long as its conducted by members of those services. Civilians who have never served have no place talking anything about any branch of the armed services. That includes members of congress.

I think it has been going on since the charioteers started busting on the archers and oarsmen!! Soldiers and sailors have been telling anti-Marine Corps jokes since sin the Roman Empire they had Marines who wore green uniforms see "Strong Men Armed: The United States Marines Against Japan" by Robert Leckie.

certainly a fun football tradition! Rivalries are part of military tradition as long it its done in fun. Another example is platoon rivalries in boot camp or cadet organizations and unit rivalries in competitions (be they athletic, drill or operational exercises) It promotes esprit d corps!

I think older Veterans have to be careful of it and I did not learn the lesson until about 10 years ago I was ripping on the Marine Corps and someone pulled me aside via PM and told me I was really hurting the feelings of an Active Duty Marine Combat Veteran that looked up towards the 101st Airborne and was viewing what I was saying as representative of the feelings of the Division and he was really disappointed. Boy did I feel like crap. So I stopped doing it and explained to the younger guy I was just joking online and was only going after the older Vets of my era, meant no disrespect to the younger Vets. So that's where I learned when you get older in life you have to be careful what you say publicly because some take it seriously if they do not know you well.

Of Course, as long as it's merely trash talk and all in good fun. Yes, we all serve, and part of serving is convincing yourself and others that you're in the baddest, strongest, most hardcore military branch. We all play our parts in the grand scheme of things.

I absolutely love the rivalry between branches. It shows the brotherly love we share and the respect for each other. I.e., bullet sponge,squid, jarhead, NAVY never again volunteer yourself. Etc. I t makes for humor and friendly rivalry. Solidifies us as One!

Generally no, although we used to tease the Marines at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama with our tailored cadence songs. It was all done in jest, and we would always pal around together after class.

The reality is when the bullets start flying all that goes away, it is all about protecting each other. I can pick on brothers and sisters, but if you do, that is your ass kind of mentality. I was the first in a long time in my family to be Army. My dad was Air Force. We joke with each other a lot. I have friends in other branches. We will trash talk like crazy, but don't let someone that has never been military try to.

I totally agree nothing wrong with letting the other branches know that the USMC is damn fighting force in the world and rubbing their noses in it a little bit. But with that being said, don't forget to give praise to the others also. Hell, I was 0311 and we even had our own rivalries within the Corps. POGs, As I was meant "Marines who are riflemen first and are in a support MOS", and GRUNTs were constantly at each other with usually the POG saying "well you couldn't do your job without me". And when it gets to that feeling or butt hurt point, you have to know when to slap the brakes on a bit and at ease. As much as you might be tempted to say "oh really, how come we are eating crayons and still humping out of the SUCK after using rocks to kill the enemy? Maybe you need to do your job cause we still got ours done". All BS side I respect any brother/sister who takes that pledge and wants to serve, and I hand salute you. ALL BRANCHES HAVE HISTORY AND HEROS, and yes that means the air farce wieners also. The Former Navy Sailors are now, the Head waiter, The Local Doorman at the high-End Hotels, the Coasties get jobs as Pool boys after their hitch is up. The Army is still trying to find things.- they are those reality show players like In " Finding Bigfoot" , etc. the Marines go to work as Longshoremen , and meat packers.
Space forces are trying to find intelligence.
The Air Force, of course , are those middle Managers the Karen's all want to speak to.

Yes, the Marines will have 184,000 strength up to 2025 but their vision is sans amphibious operations. I guess the army needs to pick up the slack? If the army does pick up amphibious operations does that mean the army will ride in navy ships? What will the marines do? Watch the army conduct amphibious operations from ships and islands? If the army is fighting in two theaters by itself and have to conduct amphibious operations, perhaps we should just get rid of the marines. Surely, we don't want them to get neck cramps as the army takes the lead and is the sole ground warfighter.

My father in-law is Navy combat vet (destroyers). My Uncle is a Seal (Navy not USMC) They tease me Army, and the USMC, Sometimes Coast guard and the USAF. I teas him back about the NAVY, sometimes with him on USMC or the USAF.

It is all in good fun. We understand the need, and appreciate the unique missions each service has...
As long as it is not mean or getting into a fight like some do at bars etc after drinking too much LOL.
I think mostly we ALL appreciate one another in the different branches of service.
Having said that...
I love the AF... I am Airborne so they take me where I need to go.
Can't swim well so leave it to the Navy that "Thinks" they do everything.
Respect the USMC, they work hard, in places I don't go to. Better them than me :D

CG. WHY OH WHY did I not join the CG. Right, No Airborne Sapper leaders there...
They are probably still DOT right ? :D snicker. Love them too.
I love when we all get together and can laugh with one another over our services.

Trash talk about other branches is all in good fun , we make fun of them they make fun of us . Civilians have not served . So in my opinion they have not earned the right to trash talk any branch of the service as they have not served in any . My favorite is 180 sailors go down under the sea in a sub and six months later 90 coupes come back up .

I have never understood why Marines always bad mouth the Navy. Without the Navy, Marines would not have food, medical care or a paycheck. it would be identical to someone bad mouthing their boss and thinking it is OK and they will not get fired. The Print Shop I ran aboard an Aircraft Carrier was next to the Brig. When you came down our ladder you were going to one of us. If it was the Brig you would have an escort. In spite of the workload I had, there were many evenings whenI had to wait for the Flight Plans to come down for copies and the Marine guarding the Brig and I would have many friendly conversations and sometimes play games. They all liked me so much they helped me to sharpen my shooting skills and qualify for the Expert Pistol and Rifle Medals. With my friendship with a Police Lieutenant, I helped them qualify for Range Master. I have learned that we are all human beings. It does not matter where you were born and educated and it does not matter whether you are BLACK, BROWN, RED, YELLOW or WHITE, we are all humans and deserve the same respect.

My older brother joined the U.S. Army in 1963 and I enlisted in the Marine Corps a year later. That's when it started, and it hasn't stopped since. Both of us are Vietnam veterans. The ragging is constant and unmerciful, each jibe funnier than the last. Neither of us would want it any other way.

I worked in the military industrial complex after my service. 90% of us were out of the military branches and we still chided each other all the years we worked together. I was ex-USAF and an ex-Marine always told me the USAF was a halfway house for sniveling draft dodgers. I of course had a few of my own for him. I am 81 now and we are still good friends. We both served and love our country.
