Is it possible for an Army officer (29 years old when my contract ends) with a PPL to transfer to the AF to become a pilot?

MINIMUM EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of theory of flight, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures and mission tactics
Completion of Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training
Completion of a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
Additional requirements specific to specialty
Completion of Officer Training School (OTS), Air Force Academy (AFA) or Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC)
Must be between the ages of 18 and 28

CPT Private RallyPoint Member Just basing this on my buddy's experience. He was enlisted Marines/AF Reserve. He obtained his PPL & successfully got into UPT. He was allowed to skip the first portion because that is when they were teaching those who had never flown before, how to fly a plane. I would think, with the pilot shortage & desperate situation right now, that you have a pretty dang good shot.

You don't have to wait. Request a transfer. It may or may not be approved, but with the pilot shortage the AF has now, my guess is they'll be incentivized to go to bat for you.

Probably not (one of my buddies is a retired AF Col and can't get a billet) - but the Civil Air Patrol could really use your talents. It's not a paying gig but the flying cheap or free and you get a chance to work with some great folks, kids included!

In my case they subtracted my enlisted time from my actual age so I slid under the wire. There was no pilot shortage back then, I hope they will be glad to see you.
What's the difference between an AF pilot and a Pig? A Pig won't stay up all night trying to screw a AF pilot.
