He was enlisted Marines/AF Reserve. He obtained his PPL & successfully got into UPT. He was allowed to skip the first portion because that is when they were teaching those who had never flown before, how to fly a plane. I would think, with the pilot shortage & desperate situation right now, that you have a pretty dang good shot. Request a transfer. It may or may not be approved, but with the pilot shortage the AF has now, my guess is they'll be incentivized to go to bat for you. It's not a paying gig but the flying cheap or free and you get a chance to work with some great folks, kids included! There was no pilot shortage back then, I hope they will be glad to see you.
What's the difference between an AF pilot and a Pig?
