Is it possible for unit to reimburse you for certifications they would normally send you to training for?

I will be attending an army class on security plus in 30 days with the exam being the day after. I'm ready for the test now and would like to take it ASAP to be admitted into my colleges computer science program without having to wait for the next deadline. If I go through TA I would have to wait at least 30 days as well. Is it possible for the unit to reimburse me if I spend the 350 out of pocket?

Hey SGT Private RallyPoint Member I took the class a month ago. From what I was told you get 2 vouchers your military career. Not sure on the TA, but the actual class is worth ten promotion points under "resident course". Save the certificate from that class. The actual security plus cert is another ten points under "tech certs" under civilian education.

Get in touch with your Command G6. As a GPC training cardholder in a past command at the G4 level, I covered these expenses for the G6 Soldiers that needed the certification. As the prior comment from CPL Field stated, I think the latest thing is that USARC (ARHQ-FB) even ended up getting bulk vouchers which was given to S6 MOS related career fields which needed that certification. G6 OIC/NCOIC can clarify but this is accurate! Good luck!

Check out the credentialing assistance program (CAP) on GoArmyEd or cool.army.mil. It's much like TA (uses the same system), and it provides up to $4500 per year for credentialing.

No- cause they are doing the paying. You go to school when the send you because that was the slot they were given- and the school fills this things months if not year in advance.

In my experience, as long as you have the paperwork in, you can get reimbursed for something you pay out of pocket. Best thing to do is ask whoever controls your training budget and your friendly base finance office.

Be careful - I don't know but the answer may be "no" and then you'll be stuck covering that bill. My guess - what you are proposing might not work.
