Hello,

So I log in to check the Requisitions on ASK and this popped up. Rule: 156, Description: You are already on orders. I currently have less than 11 months before my ETS date and my report date is in October. This is also my first enlistment and I have not re-enlisted yet, but I usually thought you kinda had a say for your first time if you choose to re-enlist (which I still haven't decided yet). This surprised me because it came out of nowhere. Is it possible to change or cancel these orders or assignment so I can pick a place of my choosing? Or am I screwed and can't do nothing about it and have to report to my new Duty Station with 5 months remaining on my contract?

- Thanks

You have to reenlist to meet the assignment SRR. Once you're on assignment you can only reenlist for the assignment.

You do have a choice in your first reassignment. You've been in your reenlistment window for 4 months now and haven't taken advantage of that opportunity so the Army chose for you. At this point you have to reenlist for it or decline it and ETS.
You may also be eligible to sign a first termer statement and have the assignment deleted. If you have never reenlisted and will have less than 4 years at your ETS, you are eligible to sign a first termer statement

So if I were to do this first termer statement and have this assignment deleted, would that still give me the option to re-enlist for a station of my choice? Also with my current situation, I had put in a packet for a special assignment and there was a code on me where I was pending special assignment and I couldnt be touched by hrc/retention. Long story short, got an email saying that I wsant't right for them and they took the code off me and literally 1 day later boom, orders to Ft. Bliss. So because of that with my window open, I couldnt do anything but wait.

SGT (Join to see) yes as long as you are eligible to do a first term statement you will be eligible to reenlist for a duty station of choice right afterwards. Sorry to hear you didn't get the special assignment you were looking for. Chances are you had been at your duty station long enough it was past time for your branch to place you on assignment

Can't he just extend his contract for a year, and re eatablish his window?

SSgt (Join to see) no, we have different rules in the Army. If he's on assignment he has 30 days to either reenlist for the assignment or sign a declination and get out. A Soldier in their reenlistment window - 15 months from ETS - can only reenlist for the assignment and not extend. A Soldier can't reenlist for a duty station while on assignment either

You are an E5 Active Duty, and have yet to figure it out? There are 2 ways- the Army way, or go home. You seldom have a say except I want to go home. You have a shortage MOS which is why you probably climbed so fast. Now your only two options are take the orders and re-enlist to cover the TOS or sign the NO Thank you papers and get out when your time is up.

Figure it out?? As I stated before, I put in a packet for something which would've required another 4yr enlistment, turned into a waiting game for months, then they said no and less than 2 days I was put on orders. Because they took too long to respond, I didn't get the chance to look at my options as I was waiting to see if I got accepted so I could've reenlisted for that assignment.

Kid, the rules for re-enlistment and the options available change all the time, based on the Army's needs. With the virus, almost everything An E5 and you expect t has been and many things still are at a stand still. As an E5 , did you expect the service to move at your speed? I hope things work out for you, but you should know and should have known long before this, that 1. You are replacable, 2. You hopes/dreams will always come in 2nd to the service. 3. It is never "Lets make a Deal", you take it or leave it. Good Luck.
