Is it possible to get a re test on the asvab even if you passed? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-it-possible-to-get-a-re-test-on-the-asvab-even-if-you-passed

I took the asvab once in October and score a 51. GT score 98.

My recruiter told me I’m not allowed to retest. At all. He said he’s not allowed to ask for a request to let me retest. I want to raise my GT in score but definitely raise the 51 as well, mainly for job opportunities. I’m pretty limited right now. He said I’m only allowed to do that if I failed or if I’m aiming for a specific job (which that is my reasoning). It’s a little frustrating because I haven’t spoken to anyone yet who said they weren’t allowed. I even have friends who scored 79-85 and were able to retest. The situation doesn’t make sense to me and I feel extremely pressured and bullied into settling for this. My recruiter said I’m just going to have to take whatever job is open, do what I gotta do and then worry about raising my score once I’m already at my duty station. If you don't meet the prerequisites for the job you want - and there are training seats available - then ask to retest.

Your 51 score doesn't mean anything. Your ASVAB score isn't used to determine your job, the line scores like ST, GT, MM, GM etc do. Your 51 isn't a score, it's a percentile. It means you tested middle of the road compared to your peers, it doesn't tell you what your GT is SFC Private RallyPoint Member Sat, 07 Mar 2020 11:59:43 -0500 2020-03-07T11:59:43-05:00 Response by CWO3 Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 7 at 2020 2:28 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-it-possible-to-get-a-re-test-on-the-asvab-even-if-you-passed?n=5638566&urlhash=5638566

I don't remember the re-test limits. All your recruiter can do is know that and submit a request to MEPCOM for you to test. Does no good to try early, as it will be rejected. The RS Ops can get a read on your status to test. You have a 51 so unless it has changed, go see the Marine recruiter before deciding. I think the reason the recruiter doesn't want you to, besides the reasons already stated, is that if you retake it and do worse than what you already scored the most recent test is the one they have to go with. It is a gamble that most, if not all, recruiters will not take. You are allowed to retest. There is a mandatory time limit between testing, so you can't just take it every week, but you can retest. You do not have to settle for jobs available now with your current score. If you are looking at a particular MOS, continue to study for the ASVAB and retake it in 6 months. Hold out for what you want. If you sign a contract now, you may never get the MOS you want.
