However, when I looked at my contract, it says I have 8 years of active reserves and 0 year of IRR. Basically none of the people I asked (Reserves/NG) have a contract with 8 years of active drilling. I told my DS at basic and they told me to get it fixed at AiT, and the platoon SGTs told me to get it fixed at my unit. I am now a TPU soldier. Is it possible to get it changed? You will need to speak with your RPAC/S1 personnel. Because you will now run the risk of possibly losing your bonus that is tied to your current contract. Again, you need to speak with your RPAC/S1 personnel for clarification. No, you cannot modify your contract.
What it means is that you signed a contract for 8 years whether that is 2,4 or 6 years that are actually active and the remainder is in the reserve or the IRR. All contracts initially are like that regardless of service, regardless of whether you are Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard. Which means, following your initial six (6) years, you'll be placed in an individual ready reserve (IRR) status for the remaining two (2) years. If you're contract say's eight (8) years of active drilling reserves, there's not much you can do as you're under a contractual obligation. Most bonuses are tied to a six (6) year commitment. So, after you've completed your initial six (6) years, you could request a transfer to IRR or a conditional release (DD Form 368) to pursue active duty or another branch. I have been in for a min or two. I have never seen a 8 yr contract either. Active, Guard or Reserve. Check with your Retention or S1 people to confirm. Keep one thing in mind. If you legitimately have an 8 yr contract with a bonus . That bonus is for the entire contract anything that you do to alter that contract potentially will change that bonus (loose or reduce). So As I said get with S1 and your Retention people. Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 24 at 2019 3:37 PM 2019-10-24T15:37:01-04:00 2019-10-24T15:37:01-04:00 2019-10-22T18:02:45-04:00
