Is it possible to receive a medical separation after already being discharged?

This week I got a call from Fort Knox telling me my discharge is under review, changing my discharge from honorable to medical, and I have to report to Fort Knox end of February. Has anyone ever been through this before? They said I'm driving down for 2 nights on TDY orders but won't allow my wife to accompany me even tho we requested it. Anyone ever been through this process? Advice? Thank you

Did they say , what department did their Review? like a special section? if so please let me know what their contact information is, because their is a few battle buddies of mine that where put out on ETS and with their injury's never got a MED Board.

Yea it department of the army. After my stroke my attorney for the organization is also a vet law attorney put the packet together for discharge review board and sent it in with all my medical records and finding from Michigan State University's Neurology team. Feel free to message me and I get give you my attorneys info so you can get them the right forms and better understanding than what I have of the process

Ok Just Added you and will message you, Yeah I help SM all day long from all over with this kind of stuff and their Chain of Command with their lack of Knowledge let the SM down and just push them through a ETS.

It would still be an honorable discharge. However, a medical board discharge means you would gain additional retirement benefits. It would be in your favor.
Also, as SSG James Palmer IV mentioned, your wife CAN come... The Army may just not pay for her, and she may not be able to attend every meeting. If anybody is telling you otherwise, ask for it in a formal policy letter.

SPC Mathew Brady I did a quick Google maps check and it looks like you are almost 400 miles away from the destination. You should ask for a flight, and if they say no, then ask for the regulation on the distance required to receive a flight. It may very well be that somebody over there doesn't want to do the paperwork to get you a ticket, but that you are entitled to it. I don't know.
Also, if you have a driving restriction, then you DEFINITELY shouldn't have to drive down that distance. That would be ridiculous. If you ever get an answer that you think is questionable, always ask for it in formal writing... not just a phone call or an email. Ask for the written policy, and ask for your denial to be written. I don't think any commander is going to sign off on a letter requiring a veteran on driving restriction to drive 400 miles so he can be taken care of medically. That just doesn't sound reasonable.

Thank you for advice, I never would've thought of that. I'm still too stuck in the 11B suck it up mentality half the time. This year after the stroke my wife made me take a step back with the organization and form a board of directors so I'm doing less instead of everything. It's hard to let go I guess

Please let me know how this works out for you. I requested a medical discharge through the Army Discharge Review Board. I submitted medical evidence to support my case as well as the memo stating I was entitled to a Medboard while still on active duty before my admin separation went through.
