Because the guard is state owned and not federal it will be next to impossible to switch to active and you will run into the same problem that no one wants to help. If you thought about it and really want to be active instead of guard I would go to a recruiter for the army and tell them your situation and see what they can do to get your contract changed before basic. If you are dead set on college being in the guard will make college go by faster and then you can OCS or if you do ROTC commission into the active army.
