My question may seem vague so please let me expound more & give you an idea of what I’m trying to articulate. I’m currently attached to an Engineer battalion, I’m planning to contract as a Cadet in the ROTC program & also join the SMP, my plan is to branch 11A in the NG. Would it be possible to gain a transfer to an Infantry unit so I could shadow someone in the Infantry field? Or is it a no go?

It depends on your State really; some states have Cadets drill together, but overall most will let you SMP with the Branch you are trying to secure, especially if you’re doing so in the same state.

You are not a true member of the unit you drill with anyway. I was in an engineer unit and was commissioned a MS officer?! Your unit affiliation doesn't get you anything, but drill pay!

If your unit fights to keep you, you are an asset.
