Is it sad that I don't use the Disabled Vet parking when it's available, just because I don't want to deal with any stolen valor jerks?

Everytime I think of using a disable vet parking spot, or wearing pride items I cringe and think of the Stolen Valor guys....my hair is outta regs, my weight is outta regs, etc......i'd love to wear a pride hat or ribbons or something but honestly just don't want to deal with it........thoughts? Not sure how I would handle it....but I can't imagine it going well for anyone.

Most Veterans can tell a real Veteran not by some parking spot, or ID card shoved in the face nope. It's something you picked up while you served, its the walk, the talk, and the persona that you give off, that's why I can spot a fake every time, easy. Scouts Out

You're right about being able to tell the real and the fake. But do you challenge the fake when you run into them ? Once when riding the bus in Phoenix there was a faker telling his made-up story to other passengers. I held my tongue because I didn't want a confrontation. He got off and I commented to his audience that what he said was all a lie. Was asked how I knew , my response was rangers weren't navy. Then said I could tell by the way he held himself and talked that he was never in the military .

SrA Shawn Nelson If they do it around me or to me I pretend to be interested, then I bust them out and tell them if they don't knock it off or if I see them doing it again I'm going to knock there block off. That normally fixes the problem. Scouts Out

A couple of points.
Many of us are certainly NOT within the limits required for active duty personnel.
A person's disability does not always show e.g. bad heart, COPD, etc
Anyone can question my service, but I know who I am and where and how I served.
Finally unless you are claiming something that you actually are not you have no reason to fear.

I do not have to justify my current status for others, period. If they have an issue with me parking in a handicap spot, I just tell them to go pound sand.
I have never come across a "Stolen Valor" advocate yet, but when I do, I want them to show me their pedigree. Mine is quit extensive, and I can debate and talk circles around them. Hopefully this happens at a bar, when my mind is lubricated; it makes it more fun.

Had one try to bust my chops once. After I showed my VETERAN STATUS on my driver's license, photo of my DD214, and my Veterans Organizations cards. I challenged him to show me his. He finally showed me a Son's of American Legion membership...guess what "THEY SCREWED UP MY CARD AND SENT ME THE WRONG CARD". Yeah, right. Your Mom or Dad probably served but you did not.
