Is it still possible to get promoted after being denied a security clearance and getting placed in an MOS that doesn't require one?

It is as long as the clearance is not needed for the higher rank.

So long as you are MOS qualified, you should be promotable.
Question is, did the item that caused the clearance to be denied have other ramifications? Most that I can think of do.

Too add to the wisdom already imparted here, if you intend on making a career out of the military, you will most certainly require at least a secret. There was talk about requiring that for SFC, but I don't know if that is the reality yet or not. There are units that require a Secret or higher, regardless of MOS, to be a condition of your billet in that unit.

BLUF: Find out what you need to do to correct the reasons for your denial, and try again in a few years. KEEP ALL YOUR RECORDS FROM THIS APPLICATION!!! Having that info at hand (such as residential history) will be very useful

Well if your mid requires a clearance you should be more concerned of being removed the promotion. If it's a requirement then it's sound like a chapterable offense or force reclass... Better work on the clearance before you worry about rather things

If you were in an MOS that required you to have a security clearance, and you did not, you should have been flagged with a code of EA. After you were selected to reclassify and completed training to be awarded that MOS, the flag would be lifted.

If you were just placed in a position that does not require a clearance, but you are an MOS that does, you should not be promoted, as you should be flagged. Shoot me a message so I can ask you some questions and give you a solid answer.

Watch out for the Catch 22 which relates to MILs, DoD Civil Servants, etc. to maintain "eligibility" for a clearance. So cleaning up the credit thing is a good idea along with anything else they thought disqualifying. If you are never eligible for a clearance, at some point expect the cattle prod.

Today I was told that if you have ANY MOS that requires secret clearance you won’t be promoted . Can any one direct to to the regulations that says this ?
