Is it too late for immigration reform if major cities boldly declare sanctuary status and fear no reprisal?

Many cities large and small have felt emboldened to declare themselves sanctuary cities. The very term sanctuary implies collusion to protect in this case lawbreakers and illegal ALIENS. These cities have effectively declared themselves outside the laws of our land and defy all federal enforcement efforts with impunity. They are encouraged by elected lawmakers. Has the point of no return passed?

The fed can always pull funding from some related programs in order to apply pressure, however, there are few if any politicians who would be willing to risk their career on such a bold move.

The state would have more broad authority to do something but, again, you would need to find politicians willing to make such bold moves.

It'll probably come down to voters to enforce their interests in these cities for change to occur.

Eventually the silent majority will require action to be taken against the rogue cities..trump has the right idea..hit them in the wallet and they will see the error of their ways..it is just a matter of implementation of how to stop federal funds..

nope, all it will take is for a few mayors to get arrested and prosecuted; or better yet for one to be found financially liable for the damaged caused by an illegal alien that they harbored. One good court case will end this entire illegal movement.

Reponses seem to imply the "cities" are some mysterious entity, operating and making decisions on it's own. They are not. They are human beings, elected to their positions. If the citizens (voters) of those cities do not support the "sanctuary" issue, those elected officials would not have their jobs for long.
Conservatives are always calling for less government at the federal level. So, why do they now call for the federal government to override local government?
Let the local voters decide.

I just had a brilliant revelation. It seems divinely inspired yet devilishly clever.
BOYCOTT all products..especially produce.. from California.
Fruits, vegetables, WINE! You would most assuredly bring out the Republican voters seeking sanctuary.
Before anyone says that is so hard to do they must think again. Nowhere near as hard as you think.
And just imagine how many rotten vegetables the voters of California will have to throw at their elected officials?

Not too late. Not yet anyway. We are in the bluff stage. Trump has threatened to cut off federal funding to some of these sanctuary cities. Every town from 5 to 20,000,000 operates on a budget. When money goes away you start questioning your public choices. If nothing happens to these cities, then the chance of immigration enforcement without reprisal looks bleak.
